Re: Next gen Monte Carlo poll.

I could see maybe a FWD/AWD coupe based off of EPII, but maybe more for Pontiac then Chevy. But a Malibu Coupe could be a hot little ticket, offereing FWD/AWD ability, a 2.4 making 170hp and a 3.6 making 270hp mated to 6spd auto. There could be possible sales stolen from an AWD V6 Malibu Coupe and a V6 Camaro Coupe? I would assume that the Malibu would be more expensive then the Camaro by a good margin (28k for the AWD Malibu and 22k for Camaro).

That is what I'd do. Make it an AWD/FWD EPII coupe. The Camaro will be Chevrolets RWD coupe. Give the FWD and AWD people a coupe.

My other option would be to kill it and come out with a quad coupe RWD Chevelle

Re: Next gen Monte Carlo poll.

With Camaro, and even more importantly GTO being RWD.... I would think it might be best to keep Monte Carlo FWD.

I also think the Quad-Coupe application, if used anywhere in the GM lineup, would be best applied to the Monte Carlo over the GTO.

I'd also like to see GM find a place for AWD in a few cars soon.

Re: Next gen Monte Carlo poll.

i think they should keep the monty carlo and keep it all wheel drive, my case being is that not all people buy a car to keep long term and could careless what happens to it when its gone and will drive it all winter a fwd MC will be a sporty car that can be used all year round up here in the north thus making a more feasible for us wear as taking a rwd camaro well not that it cant be done in a snow storm id just rather have fwd but be able to have some fun in the summer months. just my two sence

Re: Next gen Monte Carlo poll.

I voted RWD, but think it should be a mid sized quad coupe, with AWD as an option. Since the Monte is extra dough out of the Impala design, I believe that it makes sense to maximize the return. AWD would make the car attractive to snow belters who need the convenience of a 4 door, but don't want to give up the styling of a coupe. Also, I think a quad coupe, AWD sport-lux MC would be sufficiently differentiated from either the GTO or Camaro to stay strong at the 50K units or so that it currently sells per year.

Re: Next gen Monte Carlo poll.

Just leave it FWD. AWD IMO is the dumbest thing out there. Nobody needs AWD in a Car. It probably causes more accidents then preventing them.

AWD is a Marketing tool ONLY.

Same as 4x4. Only people who use 4x4 are Contractors/Farmers and people in the Snow Belt. And for people in the snow belt you can get by fine with a 2x4. Alot of people get hung up because they think their 4x4 can go anywhere.

Hmm, I think a FWD/AWD EpsilonII coupe would be interesting.

So what people will pay $2K more for that marketing tool and it will help sell more cars.

AWD would help on a 280HP+ Monte and it would sell big in the north east even though we only get about 3-5 storms that dump 6+ inches of snow.

Re: Next gen Monte Carlo poll.

If there was an attractive GM AWD sedan available that wasn't overly expensive, I'd get it without question, as long as the price to upgrade from the FWD or RWD was within reason.

As it stands, GM has the Vibe (not really a sedan as much as a wagon, plus it's too small) ... and STS, which is perfect except I don't think I'll drop that much money on it right now unless they offer some oustanding lease deal.

It might as well be, because all it does is cause higher maintenance down the road and doesn't give them anything? If the snow truely is bad enough to need a 4 wheel drive, 4, 2, 10 wheels it'll still get stuck. People like them because they feel they have more traction taking off (true) - but it's a false sense of security.

If I had a dollar for every 4x4 and AWD vehicle I see off the road in snow and ice storms I'd have plenty of gas money now. And us 2wd'rs just putz right on by - albiet alittle slower; but a litte safer as well...

Re: Next gen Monte Carlo poll.

I thought this was a Camaro board, so I can't believe people are taking this car seriously, and even arguing that GM should increase the content. Do you guys really think that Chevy can move 120,000 Camaros AND 50,000 Monte Carlos?

Re: Next gen Monte Carlo poll.

While this is a Camaro site, this section is devoted to the people involved in future auto's, especialy from GM.
As Guy will most deffinatly point out, when the Camaro stopped production, the sales of MC stayed flat. Different people are looking for different things.
Camaro is pretty much put twards a certain market.
Now, I think that a FWD/AWD Coupe might be better off for Pontiac as GM will have the Camaro, and the GTO will be a larger and more costly option, or basicly the same exact thing they have now.
G6 coupe would be the ONLY mid sized coupe in the market that offers AWD for the price. You probably wouldnt be able to touch another AWD coupe till BMW's 3 series. It would be great for Pontiac to step up to the plate like that.
