Toyota Recalling Camry
The newest edition of the Toyota Camry is being recalled for a problem with the transmission. The problem, Toyota says, involved only a half-percent of Camrys built thus far for the 2007 model year. The new six-speed automatic transmission could lose second and sixth gear during operation. Toyota told Reuters the vehicle still will operate even if the gears are lost, and that the problem usually happens within the first 500 miles of use.

Re: New Toyota Camry Recall
From what I heard there's a particular part that is generally replaced that restores functionality of that gear, but if they wanted to rebuild the trans I'd throw a fit. I'd expect a brand new trans, no questions asked.
FWIW I've heard that this recall has something to do with the slight delay in the launch of the Lexus ES350, as well. They share the exact same transmission with the V6 Camry.
Manufacturers prefer to recall cars when they can if they know exactly which ones have the problem. IE if they know that only half a percent of them are affected and they know exactly which of them they are, say those manufacturered from XX date to XX date.. then they'd prefer to send letters out and fix 'em before the owner even experiences a failure to begin with.
