New car ideas for GM to consider...
Re: New car ideas for GM to consider...
History lesson: Vega was a four-cylinder. Yes there were V8 swaps, and those little Vegas could be made into rockets, however, they didn't come that way from GM.
They already have a cheap econobox in the Chevy Aveo, so a "courier" like hatchback isn't warranted or needed. What is needed is aftermarket accessorizing if they want to attract a youth market. (Think Toyota and Scion.) For those with a little more $$$, there's always HHR.
I agree, a Cobalt convertible would be a cool idea. The only question is how much weight would need to be added to help its structural integrity? If it's a pig, it won't sell, plain and simple. Besides GM already has an affordable convertible in the Solstice/Sky. I'm guessing it may actually be cheaper to stretch Kappa into a 2+2 configuration that to cut the top off a Cobalt in the long run.
Lastly, a six figure supercar for each brand?
If the Blue Devil actually makes it to production, Chevy will already have one. Besides, a $100,000 supercar doesn't automatically increase sales across the board. Do you think Porsche would have ever come up with the $40k Boxster if they were rolling in sales from the 911? While high end cars can make a larger margin, the volume of sales from low end cars make them much more desireable, even if they cut the profit margins down to a minimum.
And lastly, of course Z28 is king!

So is the military the "reason Hummer is alive?" Well, yeah, that's the point. People wanted that image. IIRC, sales have declined in the last couple years following the H2's successful launch.
Anyways, who cares what/if people in LA think.

If anybody needs a $250,000 supercar, its Cadillac. Premium brand, standard of the world, would fit right into their move into the luxury stratosphere with Benz.
What GM ought to do is quit selling to old people buying traditional luxury Cadillacs and put them into Buicks. Really nice $30,000 to $50,000 Buicks. This will allow Cadillac to focus more on the sport side of the equation and steal sales away from BMW, Benz, and Infiniti. Buick can steal sales away from Lexus, who make more traditional and boring luxury cars.
GM needs to build an affordable RWD, V8 Camaro for 20 to 35K. There also needs to be a convertible.
I also think they need a $20,000 to $25,000 small Kappa 2+2 Coupe and Sedan. These cars need to be a more practical Sky/Solstice, but should handle every bit as well as those two cars.
AWD for the G6 and Malibu would be nice too.

ok, here is the test..6 figure supercar?? we cant ever sell 5 figure SSR's and they are about as practicle as a they get
and where you live in not where the rest of America lives, and if they buy those supercars why would they "stoop" down to a Pontiac or Buick?

I saw a yellow Aveo the other day. It looked like it was lowered with aftermarket wheels. You know what? It looked pretty cool. Especially when you figure the owner's got maybe 10 or 11 grand into it.

I would deffinatly agree that Caddy needs a large 7/S/A8 type car. Northstar making a retuned 350hp standard, and a V12 making 500ish.
But I also think that they need to get more gizmos in there other cars, especialy CTS and STS.
Also...im proud to be in someones sig...brings a tear to my eye.

You, however, are one person. Just one person. If you were to look at the city you live in as being representative of the rest of the world, you would find yourself quite confused. What GM needs is class leading entries, eye catching, and appealing (the Aztek, after all, was kinda eye catching...but in a bad way) vehicles with features and power not found in competitors. Pricing needs to be competitive, and not rebated to that point. Quality does not NEED to be world class in say, the Aveo, but it SHOULD be atleast high class.
Also, Dealer support for things that the consumer wants. Have tons of option, but not to the point of redundancy. I've seen that if you have the options to make the car something the consumer truly wants, they will not only haggle less on the price, but generally come away from that sale with a totally higher outlook on all parties involved.
wow, hell of a ramble...

You give every impression that when they were handing out clues, you thought they meant the board game and said, "nah, I don't need one".

i gotta agree here. caddy needs something like the new maserati 4 door(don't know the name, google it) something that offers class with a real kick in the a$$ for performance.

where I live, gated and gaurded comunity of million dollar mansions yes, i wish I could see more GM cars in the driveways of these home owners... But you know GM only offers a half a dozen models of cars that would appeal to these owners. and Mercedies BMW Volvo all have a better rep...Sure I dont exactly fit into the community. But GM would look great in a lot of driveways...
Of 750 homes, I know one owner with a vette, 4 owners with a ugly NSX...
Of course its a small market, but its a market non the less... and a lot of word of mouth advertisement goes with it, and it goes a long way.
