New car ideas for GM to consider...

Chevy Courier; A small, two-door hatchback with short gears and a 5/6 speed gear ratio. Tight steering, short wheelbase and plenty of torque. Ideal of pizza delivery, couriers, students on a budget. Make it cheap, RELIABLE and with an excellent cooling system since it would be ragged on. 2.4 litre 4-cyl maybe, 1.6 turbo? Make it look cool it'll be a hit with the sport compact crowed. BUILD QUALITY too. Ability to save at the pumps and squeeze into that last tight parking spot with aftermarket performance readily available.

Chevy Impala: Make it RWD so cops can get in on it!

Nomad: 2-door Malibu Maxx with an LS6 and RWD?

GM is depending on nameplate for their flagship cars, I don't think a lot of people know (or care) about the Vega.

Good grief... I can just picture a Malibu with a RWD LS6 setup... that'd be a sleeper.

FWIW I think "Courier" would be a terrible choice in naming, especially if you have any intention of the younger / sport-compact crowd taking interest in it.

Plus it was the name of Ford's compact pickup truck that was badge-engineered from Mazda.

Re: New car ideas for GM to consider...

You want to think about new car ideas?

Lets talk about role models/flagships instead of "ecconomical" pecies of crap.

I beleive every GM brand ought to have a role model...

Pontiac ought to have a 6 figure car that competes with lamborgini or Fararri
Cadillac ought to have a 6 or maybe 7 figure car that competes with rolls royce
Cadillac can also have another that competes with Fararri like the CIEN
Buick ought to have a 6 figure car made to compete with bentley
Hummer already is the leader in its 6 figure placement... no competition
Cheverolet, it doesnt need one its already got the Corvette, and its a value brand so it doesnt need to be 6 figures
Saturn, well a flag ship non the less, I say hybrids are kind of saturns image so maybe thats what they should go head to head with, 6 figure car that gets mild performance while shinning in green pants
Saab? competition for the new NSX? needs something to say "SAAB HAS STYLE, LUXUARY, AND PERFORMANCE" so probably 90k
GMC... ummm... GMC can make a really nice truck, the cadillac of trucks... Be an innovator

Look at how the Corvette is the dreams of many childern, a dream until a midlife crisis... GM could use more role models and more GOTTA have it cars... Cars that have industry leading styling and have the price appropriate for an exotic car. More less volume cars, make the streets more interesting to watch drive by rather then John Does Toyota Camry.

Exactly how big do you think the "6 figure" car market is?

Well it is all where you live. The six figure car market is large enough to support free brand advertisement due to relentless analization about the best car via magazines. I can't remember how many times I've seen Fararris, Lamborginis been put to the test in a magazine that everyday people read and dream about having Their very own Fararri some day. If GM only produced 500 a year and still could provide a profit out of some hand crafted and build dream cars People would look up to these brands.

A friend of mine, his dad is really looking to replace his MB AMG SL55 with one of the latest exotic cars not exactly sure which one, I think the new Ferrari 430 but wants a good deal on it... But isn't willing to pay more then 170k I think...

GM could make that market more appealing and more competative.

I would like to see some mainstream AWD cars from GM. All we have now is the vibe right?

He's from LA. I think. That would explain it.

I'd like to see GM do a euro style hatchback with some punch and real handling. Like a GTI, except with quality. Maybe even a Diesel.

They could also probably do a nice "cheap" 4 passenger convertible. But they need something with some style. A Cobalt convertible would be pretty plain next to a Mini, PT Cruiser, or Beetle convertible.

LA... it's a great place, and certain areas... Vettes are as common as aston martins, ferrari, a few lamberginis, v12 mercedes, Porsche, even a lotus every now and then, acura NSX's are pretty common.

At my college kids are driving these cars to school... common. GM there are really rich people who done care about price in this world... GM can make the executives sports car...

Sure these type of cars arent gonna hit annual sales of more then 4 figures if that... but obviously its worth it otherwise the H1 would not be in production (I am aware the millitary are good buyers of these vehicles and they are the reason Hummer is even alive)

GM needs some flag ships, some cars needing magazine anaylization. Dont let all the sales goto Europe.

Re: New car ideas for GM to consider...

What you are describing could be the Aveo. If they would just stuff the 2.2l engine into it. Currently there is a 1:22.7 hp:weight ratio in the Aveo which isn't bad (i think my wife's Beetle has plenty of acceleration for what it is with a 1:24 ratio). But the 145hp 2.2l in that thing would be pretty cool for a simple little daily driver. I can't imagine it costing that much more to stuff the 2.2l into it. I suppose there could be tehcnical limitations ont he platform though.
