The OHV duramax 6.6L have 4v heads. Since it is a Diesel I'm not sure how different that setup is. I can't find any good cross sections of the engine.

Doubt you'll see those two compared. I'd guess they'd be in completely different segments. I'd say the Z/28 will have waaaaaaay more than the GT's 300hp.
HEY! Wait a minute here! Foul! Foul! Foul!

The Z/28 will likely clobber the lowly GT - agreed.
But how will it fare against the BOSS 302...
Or MAYBE, just maybe, the GT-350... double-

J/K with you a little friend!
I'd LOVE to see a rekindled Boss 302 / Z/28 track rivalry.

Yeah, that's the thing, which Mustang do you compare it to? Surely the GT is the low end of the V8 Mustang lineup. But how many V8 options with Camaro have? If there's only one, then why not have a shoot out between the one Camaro and all the different Mustangs, just to see how things stack up. Heck, throw in the GTO too! Now that would be a good article to read.

Awww....
C'mon now Charlie... why you wanna be that way?
Ford's lil' ol' 281 has got the field covered already, gunning down vettes and such. And it's only gonna get BETTER (just ask Coletti)
So what's a few more cubes gonna matter?
I'll spot you 50!

In all seriousness, you and I BOTH know that cubes can be offset by weight distribution and hp/ci ratios. I am not certain, but I beleive the Z/28 and the Boss 302 were both faster than their big-block brethren, weren't they?

But we'll do what we gotta N/A. The original way, with bigger better kick **** engines and no helpers.

A Z28 with all the factory upgrades should have definetly given the top SS396 a run or even a show of the stripes going over the spoiler. Especially if it wasn't a light to light race. Talking about an engine here that wasn't rated a 375HP in perfect conditions with the engine out of the car with no emissions and open headers but an engine that really made around 400HP without being "overrated" but underrated instead. Although it made nothing for TQ, which is where the big blocks shined.

Actually Greer...I'm looking forward to seeing all of those cars. Z/28, Boss, GT-350.....I can't wait.

But.....

You'd better bring a supercharger, bro. A normally aspirated 5.0, (3V or 4V) will need to be very highly stressed to compete with the next Z/28.

A more even match (if we're talking "all motor")...would be a 4v or 3v 5.4 or perhaps a developement of the upcoming 6.2L Hurricane for Mustang.

IIRC the Camaro's concept was thought up way before F*rd ever got the idea, like around 58. Same for the GTO. (well we know the GTO came before it) It seems when F*rd thought of it, they just went with it and took the chance instead of waiting like GM always does. Maybe GM does it on purpose so they can just make theirs better than the other guy.
GM was pitched the minivan 1st also, but that doesn't mean they derserve the credit for creating it.

So even though some marketing guy came up with the idea in 1958, it's a totally irrelevent non-issue because GM produced the Corvair, which is the actual "pony car" GM produced & got to market. Ford's response was the Mustang. Mustang whipped Corvair into oblivion, Camaro came out 2 1/2 years later, the end.

To think that GM waits 9 years to produce their cars just so "it can be better than the other guy" is ludicrous.

GM takes so long to bring out a vehicle because it has an archaic approval process designed to weed out risks and protect their assets. It's that GM's so large, that this becomes self destructive at times.

At Ford (especially with a Ford running it), if the boss approves it, and finance can find a way to make it profitable, it's going to happen pretty quickly.

Chrysler, they have to get permission from Germany, but they now seem to be operating under a blanket approval for everything that was proposed years ago. That's why Chrysler seems to be moving at light-speed. most of what they are bringing out has been on hold for as long as 3 years!

Trivia Time:
When the Mustang came out, it caused such a sensation, that GM cancelled all additional spending on the Corvair, and funneled the cash into a crash program for the Camaro.

But it doesn't stop there. Chevy's new compact car, the Nova, was to debut in 1967, but was place on a year's hold while the Panther project (Camaro) took priority & snagged the Nova's new (and at the time, revolutionary) front sub-frame chassis.

Since when has it been rumored that the 5th gen SS will have anything less than a 6.0L?

Uh, I knew all that Guion. (Yes, even your trivia ) The "Maybe they wait to make the better car," was kinda a joke. (although it does happen and allows it to happen)

N/A 5.8L V10 anybody?
It's only 351 cubes, and weighs LESS than the 5.4 to boot.

Perfect 10: Ford Gives This Boss a Monster V-10

Not likely I know, but hey - ANYTHING can happen...

Just ribbing with you Z284ever! (You are one of the few guys I can really have an enjoyable joust with on the net and KNOW it's all in fun and won't turn sour.) I appreciate your disposition.
