LS3 Dyno numbers are in...
Folks, trying to establish "driveline loss" numbers is kinda silly - especially down to the precision of a single percentage point or two. There are simply too many factors that go into this, and even seemingly minor changes such as slightly lighter wheel/tire package or tweaks to final drive ratios makes accurate extrapolation attempts nearly impossible. So, please, for the love of God, just stop.
Back to the original topic though, that's damn impressive!!!

Heh, ~390 HP at the wheels ... when just a couple years back, the SVT Cobra was (factory) just putting ~390 out at the crank
. And since that was the "answer" to the F-bodies at the time, and (hopefully) the LS3 will be GM's "answer" to the Mustang when the Camaro returns, this will make things REALLY interesting!!!!!

I'm not a Mustang guy, and this doesn't invalidate your point, but I just thought you should know that Cobras were underrated and put out considerably more than 390 at the crank.

Stock 08 LS3 6-speed Corvette: 389.5whp, 371.0wtq!
After LT's and a K&N Intake (NO TUNE!!!), 423.4WHP, 426.2WTQ!!!

WOW! So with just a CAI, LT's and a tune, we could see ~440ish whp! With equal torque! That's pretty darn close to C6 Z06 numbers in a much cheaper car. LG predicts ~480whp cam only on stock heads, and I imagine over 500whp with just heads/cam/boltons.
Also, they dyno'd an A6, and it dyno'd 370.8whp, 363.8wtq. How would you have liked to just bought a 2007 Z51 last week, and then see an 08 dyno 50whp higher a few days later?

Before the hype is believed these numbers should be put to the test at a track. There's already been too many SIX THOOOUUUSAND HORSEPOWERS numbers out there that only run 110mph through the traps...

The motor is brand-spanking new. I'd wait for more cars to be dynoed and run at the strip. Let them get a few thousand break-in miles also.

It's not that I don't believe these numbers... I just want to see what the track says. I've learned not to like dyno numbers.
affect of catalytic converters on stock LS1-3 engines
So does anyone have numbers on how much removing cats helps horsepower on stock or lightly modified LS1 and LS2 engines? The original article mentioned that the cats were gone, but people have been focussing on the other changes....
