LS3 Dyno numbers are in...

Copied from ls2gto.com:

Stock 08 LS3 6-speed Corvette: 389.5whp, 371.0wtq!
After LT's and a K&N Intake (NO TUNE!!!), 423.4WHP, 426.2WTQ!!!

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1749971

WOW! So with just a CAI, LT's and a tune, we could see ~440ish whp! With equal torque! That's pretty darn close to C6 Z06 numbers in a much cheaper car. LG predicts ~480whp cam only on stock heads, and I imagine over 500whp with just heads/cam/boltons.

Also, they dyno'd an A6, and it dyno'd 370.8whp, 363.8wtq. How would you have liked to just bought a 2007 Z51 last week, and then see an 08 dyno 50whp higher a few days later?

I mentioned the numbers in the Lightning Lap thread. Pretty neat. There was a bit of a discussion on corvetteforum about it.

Wow, that's impressive.
Actually, I'd rather have a specific LS3 variant with bigger cam, free flow intake/cold air and exhaust for the Z/28 rather than a blower.

i thought that the LS3 suppose to have 425 hp stock. A mechanic at the dealership told me that GM underated all their engines.

430, and looking at those numbers, the LS3 doesn't appear to be underrated very much, if any...

Wow! I hope this is the base engine for a Z28.

The A6 must be quite a bit more effecient than the a4 as those numbers are close.

It's 430 (or 436 if you get the optional exhaust).

389.5 / 430 is 0.9058, which means that if that particular car really had 430 at the crank, then drivetrain loss is about 9.5%.

Since 9.5% drivetrain loss is completely unheard of, it's safe to assume that the LS3 is indeed slightly underrated.

With a MT Vette I'm thinking no more than 11.5%... I mean 12% is the standard number for a MT vehicle, right?

So it's overrated by 2%?

The standard number used for Autos is usually 15% or so, right? Looks like the auto, assuming that, is even less over rated.... 1.2% or so... and if we assume the Vette might have a more efficient auto trans than that, then that... even less.

All this is assuming the one dyno'd didn't have the optional exhaust.

Was the LS2 underrated? I'm just wondering now what the actual RWHP difference is between the two motors that are rated 30hp in difference by GM...

You mean underrated 2%, right? 389.5 with a 12% drivetrain loss would calculate to ~442 hp at the crank on an engine rated 430 hp by Chevrolet. Which would actually be 2.8% underrated.

I think they are rated on an average scale under the new SAE ratings. One might be 2% under, the next 2% over...

Those numbers are insane! The stock C6 is going to be crazy fast for it's price!

Yes, I meant under rated, and my 2% was rounded and based on assuming 11.5% loss.
