Lotus Esprit to get BMW 4.4L TT V8?

Assuming they can keep it light like they always tend to do (Elise is currently under 2000 pounds, Exige under 2100)... this could have some serious potential!

I miss the days of the inline-4 Esprit - 300HP from 2.2L was seriously badass in 1995 (and 280HP from the same displacement was even more badass in 1988).

I'm not sure that Colin Chapman would approve of a monstrous twin-turbo V8, but I guess that engine would be somewhat small and light by modern supercar standards.

There's no way it will be that light. The Esprit has historically been heavier. I honestly don't see it weighing less than 3000-lbs.

My money is on the Esprit still being lighter than most of the cars out there today.

As a former owner of a 1995 Esprit, I'll say that this sounds good for Lotus--but I'm not going to bet on the new Esprit being less than, say, 3000 lbs. It takes weight to support a driveline with 420-500HP.

We'll see!
