Look at what Nissan is bringing to market. Has GM completely lost touch?
Market share is up for GM. Here's a little snippet from an article in Autonews:
"GM's big year-end dealer incentives atop massive consumer rebates and free loans vaulted the company into its second consecutive year of increased U.S. market share in 2002 - and helped nearly triple GM's annual profits, to $1.7 billion."
Other major car makers are squealing like stuck pigs because they are spending future developement bucks in an effort to not lose more marketshare to GM. GM has a ton of new product in the pipeline and it's only now rolling out bit by bit.
I certainly don't suggest that GM is perfect and making everyone happy as quickly as they would like.
Much of the tone on this section is very anti GM and pounding on about the ineptness of GM... increased market share and nearly triple the profit.... the inept descriptions don't quite fit, IMO.
It's all a matter of opinion in the end. I happen to think GM has a lot of good things happening now and MANY good things coming that will interest many buyers in the future, including performance folks.
I hope you are one of them. If not, you will be missed.

I think one thing that GM NEEDS to do is offer Manual transmissions in all of it's cars, and not just the base models. I think this will boost thier image more than profits, The large majority of people will still opt for the automatic, in fact that is why they only offer an automatic on most cars now. In fact the only GM cars that I would even want to get a manual in are Camaro, Vette, SSR, XLR, GTO, and CTSv.
a lot of young people only want manuals.

It at least makes a not-as-fun car fun.
If GM needs one thing, it's fun cars.

F-body in 2002. The funny thing is that the previous two carlines were never successfully replaced. I'm not holding my breath for the F5. It will either be too tame, too expensive, or both.
a better way of saying bang for the buck is they ABANDON a market and give it up to compeitiors.
(much like Chrysler did long before GM--but now they are going back RWD a bit)
When the Caprice was axed all those potential sales went to the Crown Vic
G body---Ford still had 2 door RWD V8's--Thunderbird Cougar---lasted almost 10 years.
AND were both reborn--although the new edge Cougar was a flop.
And F-bodies---lots of those owners will buy Mustangs when tney look to replace them.
I have never understood why GM simply can abadon a market---at what point do they fight to amintain market share in a paticulr segment???
