I think it is because of the horrible packaging that was neccitated by the radical styling. The interior/trunk in terms of space when compared to the size of the car is riduculus.

Please don't flame me for this, but at least one reason the F died, is that the gen 4 did not appeal visually to the wide cross section that gens 1, 2, and 3 did. I personally found the gen 4 somewhat cartoonish in its bulges. This said from one who bought 4 new gen 2's and 1 new gen 3. I loved it mechanically (although an independent rear would have helped) and could live with the lack of a rear seat (hey, what did you think you were getting???? - more room than a 2 seater), but simply could never get past the looks. I'm certainly not alone in thinking this. Go back to the initial reviews in '92. They were not very approving of the styling. The best one, I recall, said it would grow on you. I simply won't buy a car that has to grow on me. And I didn't.

Hmmm let me think.
1. Old design with no new R and D. 98 was simply a new front clip and a drop in of the LS1 (which lasted 5 years as a model I may add). My 94 and 99 had next to no differences.
2. No advertising ...
3. Product availability. Anyone remember what 98 and 99 were like .... anyone here try to order a WS6 ... I did and couldn't get one for 2 years.
Quebec plant had nothing to do with it. Product refresh, GM committment and vision where the problems.
I know I am speaking the unspeakable but .... Product perception - GM did nothing to modernize the image of the f-body driver. The public still see us and bubble gum chewing - backwards hat- cut off sleve - high school drop out holigans. Any attempt to improve the image failed. Rockford, Night Rider, various move scenes.
