Here's to hoping the G8 has a version comparable to the Charger SRT-8. Granted, its raining and 35 degrees here in MA, but this just-traded SRT-8 begged for a quick run before it heads to the wholesaler tomorrow
I'd love to keep it, but with 6k miles and a $31,500 ACV, putting it on the lot won't work for us...we sell like 75% Jeep.
Anyway, for the car...uhm, it screams. It sounds great. If GM can get the Stabili-Trak in the G8 to work like the Charger SRT-8, it will be amazing how much yanking you can do on a 425hp car in the rain
At 60 MPH, full throttle could cause the tail to slither in the rain, this SRT-8 hauls so hard.
The seats are phenomenal. The Brembo slotted brakes are a dream. The handling appears razor-sharp. The sound...wow...it sounds like the engine wants to suck in the hood, and the exhaust is amazing. If it had 2 doors and had a stick, I'd say I'd honestly consider one over a GTO based on the attitude and the feeling behind the wheel.
It got me to thinking...if this car, with 425hp and 4,100 lbs, accelerates the way it does, what will a 425hp SS Camaro feel like at 3,600 lbs???
I can't wait...
In the end though, Pontiac needs a car like this. As much as I really enjoy our Comp G, which drives nothing like a typical Grand Prix, it feels like a limp-wristed econo-car compared to this SRT-8. Granted, a Comp G was a $30k car and this particular SRT-8 listed for $43k with every option, but still...if the G8 can get the attitude of this thing for mid $30s???
Wow...

Nice car. Weighs 4200 lbs though
Anyway, I would have seriously considered one when shopping for my GTO if they were not asking over $40k new and if they offered something else besides an automatic transmission.

I'll agree with the MT problem for sure, but the car feels so light on its feet, and is so friggen fast, I honestly have no issue with the weight. It doesn't feel like anywhere near 4,100 lbs, but I know if it weighed less it'd be better. I wouldn't call a GTO anorexic either, you know
For a top line, 400+ HP version???? Why? Why does everyone here feel a 400hp car needs to be priced in the high 20s? I think the GTO, for what it offers, is a steal at 33k. If they had offered an LS1-rated version with cloth for upper 20s, people would have thought the car was a steal...

Good timing Jason E! Here is a review of the Holden SS V v Chrysler SRT8 v FPV GT. If you would like any more info on the SS-V just ask, because as of 8 hours ago I own one!
Had a choice between a Charger SRT8 or a Magnum SRT8. With two dogs, and a kid, I needed the Magnum. Got my Maggy for 36K OTD. They were giving all kinds of incentives, the Charger would have been 38K OTD, both are quick, fast and handle well for a land yacht. The seats are fantastic, and getting slotted Brembos at all four corners are reassuring. I added Hotchkis swaybars, and I can honestly tell you this thing handles as well (quick turn in) as my old SS. Keisler makes a T56 conversion kit for those not wanting to wait for the Challenger.

Can we get some pics of things like the trunk, underhood, and suspension. Maybe also some pics of the rear seat area and passthrough.

You mean 3800 pounds for the Camaro

I haven't driven one but I really like everything about the Charger.
I don't think an SRT-8 Charger weighs quite 4,200 lbs, but when a car weighs that much, what's the difference
I agree the GTO is a nicer interior, and is definitely a more involving car to drive, which is normally my top priority in preferring a car. The Charger simply feels more bad ***...I can't explain it. I just know if I had a family and couldn't have a Camaro, the choice is clear
However, given that scenario, I really want a Pontiac instead!!!!

All I know is that my girlfriend comes on here semi-regularly (she doesn't post), and was a little upset that I dared call her new black beast a "limp wristed econo car"...
IMO, that just proves how completely bad-*** that car is. Its amazing how the last few years have evolved for performance geeks like us
It used to be a GTP GP was about the baddest 4 door you could get. Amazing how times change...

I did a lot of driving of SRT8 Chargers as part of my job, and while I like the acceleration, stability control and comfort, the car feels like a cow in terms of dynamics. There's very little body movement either for cornering or for acceleration so you don't really feel like you're driving a responsive car. I also don't care for the deadening of the sound - you can only hear the exhaust growl when you step on the car and you can't feel any vibration in the cabin at all. Granted, that makes it comfy, but c'mon, if you want a sports car you want to feel those things. My wife and I *LOVE* the fact that my WS6 vibrates slightly in the cabin (it did from day one). And even her Z has a mean sounding exhaust at idle. These are the fun things that remind you that you're driving a sports car even when you're sitting in traffic. Charger doesn't have any of that at all. And I have to say, at no point did the Charger scare me a little - it was all SO controlled. My WS6 (when I first got it) scared me - that's what *I* want.
