Jaguar fixed their V8 problem
Jag had the dubious distinction of the lowest power luxury V8 - both NA and non-NA versions.
With 510hp supercharged and 385hp NA, the new 5.0 Jaguar V8 gets Jag back into the game of V8 luxury car engines. What's impressive is that those two engines in the heavyweight Jag XF (all U.S. models over 4000 pounds) are expected to get 16/25 and 15/23 in the 385 and 510hp versions, respectively.
I hope that GM can replace the Northstar with a V6 or Smallblock soon, as the power efficiency (HP to EPA mileage) of the Northstar is quite poor, especially the FWD version, where the 292hp Lucerne manages only 15/22 (regular, at least), while the RWD version in the STS gets 15/24 from 320hp (though that is with premium). The poor old Northstar is clearly outclassed, and with the cancellation of the Ultra V8, I doubt the situation will get better. It's sad -- like an old football player trying to play past his prime. Time to retire the poor thing before Cadillac's reputation is besmirched.

I wonder what kind of power output the Northstar would see if direct injection were added? Probably really close to 375hp NA and definitely well over 500 in the supercharged versions.

The next gen Northstar may be shelved, but that doesn't mean the current version won't get a few upgrades.

Yes, it's DI, and the link can be found at http://news.prnewswire.com/DisplayRe...4952583&EDATE=

I hope you're right. They need to do something. Whatever it is, they're keeping a pretty tight lid.

I don't know if this was their old engine or the new one, but it is pretty cool either way.
