If they still made 2002 F-cars, would you buy a new one today?
Re: If they still made 2002 F-cars, would you buy a new one today?
Would I buy one new???
Not only no, but HELL NO!!!!
Am I willing to buy a NEW car that looks like the one introduced 12 freaking years ago?
Do I want a NEW car who's interior by today's standards wouldn't make the cut in a Kia?
Do I want to look forward to replacing alternators and power window motors as part of regular maintenence in a NEW car?
Do I want a NEW car whose chassis can be traced back not just 22 years to the 3rd gen's debut, not just 26 years to when GM 1st started engineering this structure but back to the late 60s when GM started engineering the Vega it's based on?
Or the clincher: Am I willing to once again finance $700 a month for the next 4 years of my life for the privilege of going through all this in a NEW car?
Sorry, there just simply ISN'T enough meth, crack, or magic mushrooms in the entire state of California to get me anywhere near the mental condition to seriously consider that question.
On the other side of the coin, I think USED F-bodies are turning into great bargains.

Guy, what are you trying to say
J/K, lol
You bring up many good points but on the other hand the '02 F-bodies still do pretty everything that I would want or need in a car...That's w/o even mentioning the fact that they look better than the new Mustang, they handle better and are faster...The basic platform they were on still worked and it worked quite well, maybe a bit of refinement was needed in the overall package to make it apeal to more people but for the most part the more important factors in the equation were already there

Further, let me take one on a road course.........there's still a very big difference.
By the way.....what IS the purpose of this question??????

From the rumour mill, Convertibles were exempt, and GM had looked into the possibility of having the T-tops classified as a convertible (they couldn't) to continue production of just T-tops and convertibles for 2003.

well, that's true...but there were many other reasons......
The car was dropped from product plans after, as I recall, 1998......however, we were able to keep it alive thru 2002....due, in large part, to the LS1 engine.
The business case to make Ste. Therese an Fcar plant.....and Fcars only...made all the sense in 1990..........however, when the market continued to change (and please......don't anyone pipe up with "well...I woulda done it some other way.........'cause you wouldn't have.......) and the market continued to "fragment".......and Ste. Therese went down to one shift, a very large black hole opened up that swallowed a LOT of money. That's just two reasons...........................
There are many more.

Re: If they still made 2002 F-cars, would you buy a new one today?
depends on prices and the LS2. I'd prefere a redesign with the same wheelbase and losing about 6-10 inches of length and that the rear fenders on the TA didn't bulge out as bad obstructing my rear veiw. That was a factor in my first fender bender.

But as worded, would I buy a 2002 F-body if they still made it, my answer is no way in hell! There is no possible reason on the face of the planet earth why GM wouldn't or couldn't have done a body and interior change since the car was last touched up 7 years ago (or the body done 12 years ago).
IF the question included a redesign, a new modern quality interior, and better components (ie: window motors) then I could answer a definate maybe! If I liked the looks, quality, feeling, and performance, no doubt whatsoever that I'd consider it.
But buying a 1993 car with 1998 updates in 2005 during the 2006 model year?
Come on! Let's get real here!
Re: If they still made 2002 F-cars, would you buy a new one today?
There were those a while back (1999) that were calling for a buyout of the factory to continue making the car. That would certainly be Avanti de ja vu.
Re: If they still made 2002 F-cars, would you buy a new one today?
I was in an '05 Mustang GT 5-speed 'vert today....Honestly I was rather unimpressed with it, I am pretty tired right now, but maybe tommorow I'll post my impression. In short though, I think I'd rather have my '97 Z/28
The car left me unimpressed and uninspired
