It was reported in the same magazine that showed VE photoshopped images that the VZ Monaro will cease around production around the same time as the VE is released, before re-appearing again in 2008.

Afew weeks ago, Holden said they would produce the VZ Monaro for as long as Pontiac could make a case for GTO.

I'll look for the link.

Yeah, I read the same article... the link is on my website under the News section... Holden are either keeping the media (and us enthusiasts) at bay or things are slowly evolving wrt RWD performance coupes.
