Re: Hemi shortage.

I once got 32 mpg in my Mustang GT on a road trip. Surprised me, but it happened. Will this guy get 29 mpg all the time? I doubt it.

They also quoted gas mileage numbers for the high peformence 6.1 V8, which will make up a small number of the Hemi's sold in cars. The 5.7 gets 17 city/25 highway, much better than the numbers MSNBC quoted. If an uninformed person is reading through this article, they will more than likely assume that all of the Hemi's get 14 city/19 highway and become misinformed. The 5.7 Hemi is actually fuel efficent for a V8 pushing 2 tons of steel.
Exactly, MSNBC is just trying to push their tree hugger agenda on their non car readers. New reports like these are the reason no one believes me when I talk about LS1s and MPG.

"But its a BIG V8!"

And honestly why do they have to keep saying "big" V8? I takeit none of these reporters have ever see a 426 Hemi

This is a good point. I got ~28-32mpg in my old Z (LS1 6spd), but it wasnt an every-tank type of deal. That only happened when I was literally cruising for the entire tank. In the city, mileage declined significantly.

However. Look at it this way. Someone coming out of say, a Ford Excursion or Expedition, or a Chevy Suburban or Denali or some such might see 15-22mpg as a damn godsend.
