The H2 and H3 may not be as ultimately capable as the over-engineered for military purposes (and wildly expensive and impractical) H1, but they are both quite capable "real" suvs. IMO.
BTW, did you guys see that the H1 is finally getting the Duramax/Allison 1000 series combo? That should waken that beast up a bit.
190 hp --> 310 hp
440 lb-ft --> 520 - 605 lb-ft

Fake SUV = Honda/Acura minivans based unibody SUVs
Real SUV = Body on frame, truck based SUVs like the H3 or Tahoe.

Granted, I agree with the general sentiment of the SUV fad going away, and I agree that most of these won't ever really go off road. But that is not because the SUV itself is fake; it is the people who buy something that rugged and never use it.

Re: H3 Hummer Pics!
So does it have to be "junky" (i.e. not worth worrying about, and therefore more likely to go offroad) to be "real" in the SUV sense? In other words, saying an H3 will never go off road is a statement about most of the people who buy them. Because I can pretty much state that it will be a better off road vehicle than a Blazer. Sure, I might be "afraid" to take my shiny new H3 (if I had one) on the Rubicon, 'cause it could get banged up. But I'm not made of money. So I'd be more inclined to take a used 4x4 of some sort.
But if I had LOTS of money, sure I'd have an H1 or something to play with. Besides, a scratch or dent (battle scar?) on the outside of the vehicle really isn't that big of a deal, if you got it by using the vehicle as intended, know what I mean?
You seem to be talking about perception. Your perception of most of those vehicles is that they never go off road (which is true for many owners, but not all). I don't see how that makes the H3 a fake SUV. It is quite capable of doing SUV-ish things.
So maybe it is the owners who are "fake ***." The Toyota Highlander or CR-V pilot knows they won't ever go offroad, and buys an SUV for some of the utility aspects (good view of road, passenger space, cargo room) but doesn't try to "fake" it by buying some rough and tough 4x4 like the H2, H3, Wrangler Rubicon, etc just for the look. So they are not fake ***. The person who buys the H3 just to look trendy at the local club probably would be fake ***.
But the H3 itself isn't, and at least a few owners WILL do some real offroading with it, and they would therefore also not be fake ***.

Re: H3 Hummer Pics!
I think that it comes down to the owner, and not the SUV itself. The H1, H2, and H3 all seem to be good off-roading vehicles. Its just you dont see many soccer moms on the trail with there SUV's.

i don't see why everyone's raving about the interior. the cluster is cheesy with the late 70's early 80's Roger Wilco type too much plain aluminum look to it and the rest of the interior is spartan. it doesn't look terrible, but it does look unfinished.
