the reason i say the new GTO lends itself more to the 'muscle car' name is because just like the original muscle cars , there was your ho-hum family sedan which it was based on, in this case the Commodore 4 - door.

does the F-body have a family sedan variant -NO...

Is the mustang based on a family sedan ??? again No.

just my .02c
However, the GTO is based on a sedan that was never sold in this country. Also, as much as I hate to admit it, the Mustang was based on the Fairmont platform. The new Mustang will be based on the LS platform.

Er..... actually it is.

Fox chassis of 1978 which spawned our Fairmont & second generation Granada & Monarch. Later it spawned LTDs (Fairmont's replacement), and seemingly every single US made Ford in the 80s that wasn't FWD or weighed 2 tons.

LS1/LS6 Safer to mod?? Anyone who knows HP,knows that the more you have, the car becomes less reliable. I would much rather have a stock forged internal Cobra motor in the 9's than a stock LS1 short block. Are you going to put Ford downbecause they started with a supercharger mod from the factory??

Come on, stop bickering.

Hey, I checked out the Holden sight. It looks like Holden HVT has two coupe models the GTO and the GTA. The GTO comes with a normal 364 horse LS1 and the GTA comes with an imported Callaway 429 horse LS1, how cool is that! The real kicker is the HRT 427 concept car that comes with the C5R 427, that's like 550 horses! Yeah it's a concept car but if you read through their sight they have a statement that says that if they receive 50 deposits they will build it! Think if Chevrolet was like that, "oh yeah we have this C5R Z06 concept car and if we receive 50 deposits we'll start building it!

whats the definition of muscle car vs dedicated sports car??

quote:
''if you think about it, even in the heyday of the Impala SSs and Chevelle SSs and Roadrunners and GTOs....the numbers of these great performers were very small compared to the millions of sedan variants with small 6s and small V8s. No question, the SS and GTO and Roadrunners were "halo" vehicles to the "regular variants" -- and yes, many sons and daughters would have loved to have their parents buy an Impala SS rather than that Bel Air 4-door....but those Impala SSs did help us to sell 1.5 million 'regular' Impalas in 1965!''

in a sports car such as the f-body where are the variants ???

and in the mustang where are your 4-door variants ???

could this be the key to success ???

again my .02c

That is really cool. It would be great if we could have a preocess similar to that for special vehicle production.
