Exclamation GTO might actually be as fast as a S/C Cobra.

I was looking at a thread on another site, and it brought up some things I don't think anyone has realized yet.

Cobras and Monaros weigh almost exactly the same. Cobras have 390 both in horsepower & torque. The CTSv and GTO engine were designed for more torque than the 345 in Corvette form, yet it was announced last week that the CTSv has almost 400hp.

If this is true, then it becomes possible that the new GTO may actually keep up with the Cobra, or with a more agressive axle ratio, out accelerate them.

Also, Ford expects to sell 6,500 Cobras this year, yet Pontiac plans to sell 18,000 GTOs. Seems alot of people are already putting deposits on them. They won't be all that rare, but I don't think they are going to escape big dealer markups the 1st year.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Even if it did, I wouldn't care. I'd still rather have the 03 cobra, besides the fact I can't afford a GTO.

BTW, both Cobra & GTO will be the same price, as well as size, weight, and possibly performance as well.

Having driven one, I will say the Monaro has more rear seat legroom and a better driving position. Rear seat headroom is a little tight, but then again, I won't be riding back there.

Isn't it still unconfirmed which engine is going into the CTS V, or that the same engine will be in the GTO? Let's not jump the gun and get ourselves hoping for '03 Cobra performance numbers just yet.

What source says that the GTO and CTSv will share the same motor? If it is true it is fantastic news. I saw that the CTSv was getting 400 hp as well. I also saw that it would come in close to 50 grand

I dunno how correct this is but Decromin might be able to give you guys more infomation as he has the access to a msg board with the figures.
Apparently a Holden insider has said that the GTO will have way more than 350hp, as I got the general idea that it would have 400hp or more (maybe 430??). But I don't have the exact hp so you will have to pester Decromin and he might tell you if your nice

The GTO won't be as fast as the Cobra. It won't have 400 hp. It can't be faster or have more hp than a standard Vette. Don't forget the GM heirarchy thing. Now, when the C6 comes out, we'll see.

Even though I find the GTO's styling to be a bit boring (too similar to current GP from the drawing), I will consider one, simply because it is 2 door, RWD, V8...

A myth that's been proven wrong many times on this board.

The lasy year of the C5 could see more HP. The last year Of the C4 saw the Lt4 vettes. We might get a bump In HP like that. I dopnt think the vette rule will still apply. If caddy wants to compete it will need some serious power in the future. More than the vette will be able to have for 45 grand.

There is a big post on upcoming Holden news on www.ls1.com.au, but the cat isn't out of the bag over the GTO output, tho it is expected to exceed 350hp by a healthy amount ...

Decromin is that rumour in regards to the post in FF .com ??? they said they know inside info on what the U.S. GTO power figures were, they said 320kw !!! dude isnt that like 450hp??? please let it be true !!!

it would be a damn shame if the aussies had this power figure ready ... and it wasnt approved by GM N/A because it would out-power the vette...

Keep in mind that a lot of 03 Cobras are dynoing 380+ to the wheels stock, so 390 is underrated to say the least.

"I'd rather buy the Cobra, the GTO is too expensive"

That is the funniest thing I've seen on this forum today.

Gotta love the length some people will go to just bash on the new GTO, even down to the point of not making any damned sense.

Don't forget the Grand National

I think the GTO will give the new Cobra a good run for it's money. But the kids here who just want to hate it for the sake of hating will still whine about how it looks too much like random car A that they don't care for.
