WOW... were are they getting that torque from
Glad to see they are not dropping the 4.8L, I'd still like to see that go into a Colorado.
I'm guessing the 5.3L is just getting the Vortec4000/LS2 setup.
4.2L = 290HP/300tq
4.8L = 300HP/335tq
5.3L = 355HP/380tq
6.0L = 400HP/400tq

Re: GMT900 5.3L V8 = 355HP/380tq
Vortec 6000 will put out 435 HP and 440 lb/ft of torque.
The 8.1 will return with 375 HP and 480 lb/ft of torque.
Duramax 6600 will have 345HP and an earth shattering 630lb/ft.
Does anyone else think that the 8.1L is completely unnecessary? For a measly 40 lb/ft of torque increase over Vortec 6000, what else does it offer? It has 60HP LESS!!! And its fuel economy is probably much less.

I'd be interested in seeing what the whole torque curve looks like. Peaks don't mean much to me.
Thankfully, the weak I5 isn't going to see use in the GMT900s. I'm totally disappointed with that engine.

I6 has class leading power and the I5 has class leading fuel economy

I got 21mpg and 21.4mpg on the last 2 tanks in My Colorado. I5 =

I recently talked to a customer that had colorado with an I-5 about what kind of gas mileage he got. He said 17mpg which was worse than his 2wd 1500 4.8. He wasn't real happy about that. He said that he put a tonneu (sp?) cover on it to help mpg too.

But honestly, we have been very happy with our fuel economy.
Average 17-18 in the city and about 25-27 on the hwy. Considering this is the big version of this thing, I didn't think that was too bad.

anyone else thing that the 435HP and 440lb/ft of torque 6.0L is were we will see the Vette at come 2007. That would give room for a 400HP LS2 Camaro.
Or it would be cool to see the Z51 get that 435HP engine.

Also, Ive raced my friend with an 05 Dakota with the V8 and we stayed neck and neck from a 20mph roll up to 70 when we shut it down. I actually edged on him a little. That little I5 can hold its own
I do agree though that it would suck in a fullsize.Those output increases are awsome. I also think that we dont need the 4.8 or 8.1.
