Joe works for GM. He did some of the tuning on the 3.7L I5 in the GMT355 trucks. I imagine that he would hear things before we do.

That sucks. And people were pissed when they thought the Silverado might get a 242HP 5 cyl. Sure would have been a lot nicer than the old 195HP 4.3L. (my dad had a 4.3L in his 1991 C1500)

Since sales of the GMT355's and 360's are down I'd expect GM to have enough capacity to supply the Silverado with both the I5 and I6.

If MT pulled the 4.3 out of their *** where did they get the 195hp figure? The previous gen 4.3 was rated at 200hp. I know because I had one in the GMT-800.

Nevermind I just checked the current GMT-800s and the 4.3 has been downrated to 195hp. Did the SAE figures lower its power rating? I thought GM didn't suffer any downrated power figures?

The Blazer was always 195HP, and the Silverado got down rated in 2004, this was before the new rating system. I Don't think any of GMs new truck engine are the new rating system yet other than the 6.2L in the Escalade.

He's learning folks. This is coming from people that happily bought a GMC with vinyl floor, no power locks or windows, and haven't touched the dash other than to wipe the dust off of it, or sto et a map to the deer property on it.

I have no doubt that some people just don't give a damn about the interior of their truck. In fact looking at the condition some of them are kept in I can deduce that REALLY quickly.

What I always said in this forum is that a good deal of half ton truck buyers (and especially SUV buyers) don't necessarily agree with that sentiment. They DO care about their interior and they DO use that as a factor when making their decision whether consciously or subconsciously.

They should offer both. For people that really use a "Truck" as a "Truck" and by that I mean the seats will be dirty in a month, bed scratched up from hauling everything, and bumper ripped off for a Reese Hitch; these people could care less about a "Fancy" interior, "Fancy" exterior, or even big power. A small diesel engine would be perfect in a Work Truck; but that's obviously not an option.

I need a truck for a work truck and would prefer to pay sub $20k for a 4x4 work truck. I hate the fact I have to pay big money for a vehicle that I know is going to get abused and beat up, that's my problem with where Trucks have headed the last 10 years.

So many people want a Truck, but they never "use" a Truck. Beyond me I guess.

There is nothing terribly disappointing about this truck, to me, except the powertrains. To simply carry over the GMT-800 engines shows an alarming lack of concern about the competition. Oh sure, you can get the 6.2, but only in a handful of pricey GMCs. I expected the 6.0 to lay the smack down on the Hemi....but heck, if the rumors are true it may not even outgun the new Tundra's top motor.

The powertrains will likely be the same as the GMT900 SUVs but we may get a 6 speed manual option. What MT printed was the GMT800 powertrain info it is likely not 100% correct.

Honestly, I rather see the 6 speed auto across the board first, before any engine power boost.

Reason is, with the 6 speed, they should be able to keep the tall overdrive(maybe better than a 3.73 4 speed), while having the aggressive lower gears (maybe even better than a 4.10 4 speed) together. Plus better gear spacing to even out the shifts, which would make hauling a bit easier too.

IOW, with a 6 speed, its possible the truck could be faster, more fuel efficient, and have a higher tow rating too.

In fact personally, only thing that will really motivate me to replace my 2004 Avalanche, would be a GMT-900 truck/suv that has a 6 speed auto.... although just the added safety and refinement alone is really making me itchy.. If I didn't have my '04 Av, I would love to get the '07 Av right now.

You right and I think we will see the 6 speeds move across and replace the 4 speeds but not to fast, we want to keep the quality up. I can see the 6.0's getting them the year after the 6.2s, and the 5.3s the year after that and so on until the entire lineup has them, though with the Sigmas, Zetas, and Holdens using the 6 speeds we could run into a capacity issue.
