You are not one of those that have been angry since the Monroney Act of 1958, are you?
GM makes great cars. They are worth the money. Dealers that haen't figured this out already mght consider getting get back to that.
I believe it.
Meeting the market is anything but communistic.

That dealer will retain his people long term. Looking out for your staff shows the kind of leadership GM needs. Without partnering with those on the front line, you can forget stable growth and solid business.
There is no doubt this is moving metal, I made big money today. Still stinks.

Re: GM market share at 30.3% for June!
Honestly I do not see how this can in the end be a negative thing for GM. Sales were down something like 15% and from what I thought that percentage was just going to continue to fall. This little gimmick has caused a shift back the other way which is the most important thing right now especially if you are thinking about the future. Even if their final profit did slump which I dont fully believe, think about what it has brought. We now are back up to 30.3% percent of market! In the end I think this will cause people who havent looked at GM recently to at least take a glance causing them to possibly buy in the future or puchase a vehicle now which could possibly cause brand loyalty for all we know. GM has a lineup of vehicles that Im actually proud of and Im just happy that more people are seeing them.
If a dealer doesnt want to participate in the program he does not have to but that would leave them out in the cold. Anyone in the market for a GM vehicle has probably seen that commercial by now and imagine their response when they get to a dealership that doesnt offer the employee discount. Honestly though I do not see why a dealer would not want to participate. I know over a dozen people who have been interested in cars such as the Cobalt, GTO, and Corvette and only recently have decided to purchase one. Honestly, if they had not done this then one of my friends, the one looking at the Cobalt because the only car hed ever bought was a VW and frankly GM hasn't got the best reputation. This little gimmick has gotten people to look at GM who havent in a while. The worst thing that can happen is that prices go back up, sales come down but I really do not think we will be in as bad of a situation as we were in come July 5th.

The more I read, the more I hope that GM not only ignores Buickman, but runs from him at the best possible speed. Of the last 5 or so (at least) posts directed at him, he has actually addressed maybe one point in his responses. Maybe. What a joke. Apparently spin is his speciality.
I live in Mid-Michigan and I guarantee you, the next car I buy will not be from Suski just because of you Buickman. I'm not against you for being anti current GM management. It just that you are an obvious Snake Oil salesman. You've got people involved with dealerships calling you out on points you are trying to feed people here, but can you make one single point that actually refutes what they say? No. It's basically just "I think it's bad, so it is".
Let's say for a moment that the current GMS plan is bad for dealers-in the short term. What are the long term implications? Let's see, you are getting people to come in to look at and buy new products at a much higher level. This is exactly what GM needs to do so that people can see firsthand the dramitic improvement in its new product offerings. As it has been stated, many of these sales are conquest sales and many of these ARE GOING TO COME BACK for a GM product next time so the dealer is going to sell two cars (at least) to a customer he wasn't going to sell even one to before! This is somehow BAD for the dealer?

Re: GM market share at 30.3% for June!
Sticks and Stones.
You can't give $10,000 off a Tahoe and return to normal pricing next month. You think this is so great? After you pay all your monthly expenses, have someone take away roughly half your disposable income. Everyone seems to think this is making money, you're grossly in error. The image is hurt, the dealers are upset, the salesman are furious. GM is on the wrong path I assure you. Time will tell. GM management is at the wit's end. This is the dumbest promotion they could have announced. So silly seeing some of you excited about 30% share. Watch July and August and see how wrong I am. Watch the financials, not the headlines but the net after all "special" charges. Financial folks at GM are remarkable with the spin.

Who's monthly expenses? Who's disposable income? Who's upset? Who's furious? Are you worried about GM or the dealers/salesmen? With all your rhetoric I thought it was supposed to be GM, but I guess not.
It is funny that the other people in this thread that are associated with dealers don't have a problem with this program, just you. Why?
How is image hurt by this? It is definately better than the image put forth by incentives. It seems like a very good way to reset pricing by lowering MSRP's and incentives after this program is over. But I guess since it's not part of the plan....

This promotion was extremly sucsessful at clearing out a lot of the '05's to make room for the '06's (my dad even bought a new truck this month). But I agree that it is just a patch and not solution. July and August will be interesting months. IMO GM won't be able to turn things around until the GMT900's and RWD cars start to come out.
Just build a new world class Camaro and theres extra 100,000 sales a year right there

Lunghamer Chevrolet - Better than 90% of their sales are GMS, year in and year out. Used car manager is a buddy of mine.
Rinke - Same thing.
Randy Hosler Pontiac - Same thing.
All of those dealers, and many, many, many more in the Detroit and FLINT areas have been around for years and years making a nice profit on basically GMS ONLY sales (I'll include PEP and Supplier Discount in there for clarity's sake), even back to the days of Option 1 and Option 2 and before.
"A dealer in Michigan that isn't going to participate in GMS might as well drink the kool-aid and sell velvet Elvis paintings in the service lines..."
AMEN.
Remember kids, BM has been making his "name" as a salesman BY SELLING CARS TO GM EMPLOYEES AND THEIR FAMILIES. He was in FLINT, also known as 'BUICK CITY',and while he'll try to BS us with the 70% figure on his GMS sales, the dealerships in the area are ALL making their livings by selling PEP, GMS or Supplier Discount. The numbers for some of the dealerships exceed the 90% above, year after year.
No dealership EVER lost money selling GMS, and many exist because the GMS system works and allows them to make a profit. They might not be able to gouge out profit by playing the predator on a little old granma or scalping someone on a hot car, but they never LOST money on the sale.
He's also the only person on the board with a vested interest in having GM's marketing plans fail. Once you see the commentary in that light you realize the the thing he fears most is not GM's failure, but GM's success WITHOUT HIM. And the complaining about going under as a dealer off of GMS sales is about as disingenuous as it comes - especially since that's pretty much the only way BM has ever sold a car.
