Here's some good reading on the subject:
Why does it cost so much, and why does it take so long to make a drug.?? So our beloved Gov't can make those Billions of dollars while also profiting off of the treatments of those diseases...Does anyone not believe, that in this day and age, diseases are BIG buisness, therefore you will see NO cures to the most profitable diseases...

90rocz.....my sincerest sympathy on the passing of your father.

I lost my father to heart disease a few years back...and miss him very much.

He was a smoker, as am I. After two heart attacks, the doctor, (My cousin) told him 'either quit or die'.....

He kept smoking.

I can't blame the tobacco company and I can't blame the FDA.

They didn't force him to smoke.

The bad news is that smoking is addictive. (trust me, I've tried to quit....) Anyone who started smoking after, say 1980 had to know that smoking is bad for your health.

So is drinking. You go out and toss down a dozen drinks and kill yourself....in my line of thinking, you can't blame the company that made the alcoholic beverage.

I guess my take on this is that it's time for people to take responsibility for their actions.

My father decided to continue to smoke. Therefore, if he died because of it, he was the one responsible.

(interestingly, my grandmother --his mother-- died this past year in her 101st year....and smoked for years......)

Again, my condolences on the loss of your father.

I'm confused, are you saying that the government is now profiting? Do you mean tax revenue?

At any rate, there will always be another disease to treat. "BIG business" has developed or helped develop drugs that can treat and cure many types of cancer, polio, smallpox, tuberculosis and countless other ailments. If they were sandbagging, someone else would come along and make their product obsolete with an actual cure, thus gaining 100% market share.

The FDA is a bureaucracy gone out of control, if anyone can figure out their motives for doing anything, I'd like to hear the explanation, no scratch that, their justifications would likely be as confusing as their actions.

FDA regulations are one large contributing factor to the expense of developing a drug, but not the only one. I wouldn't have the faintest clue on where to start developing a drug to treat an illness. That takes very smart people with alot of education, who will not work for free. And how much do you suppose it costs to have the wherewithall to create chemicals that have never existed before, I'm guessing that it's quite complex.

We have all lost loved ones that might have been better off had a certain set of circumstances been changed. There is no cure-all solution that can make it all better, and if by some miracle life was fair and there was a solution, do you honestly think it would come from the government?

...thanks.......

That's my take on it too, to a point, BUT those in positions of authority who know (w/o a doubt) that this stuff is poisonous(especially since they're adding hundreds of chemicals to these products) are and should be held just as responsible for "their" actions as well...I ,btw, have NEVER taken up the habit, mostly b/c of living with what it was doing to my father..
(interestingly, my grandmother --his mother-- died this past year in her 101st year....and smoked for years......)
Oddly enough, my father's grandmother was also over 100yrs old and smoked most of her life...I atribute this to most of her smoking being done before Gov't Reg,s forced the use of pesticides and germicides and preservatives on tobacco...She,1/3 Indian from KY, grew and prepared almost everything she smoked since her teens...where I grew it also in my younger years...Before we were "allowed to sell it" we had to spray it, at various stages of its life, with noxious chemicals...some dangerous to breath or even touch.

How could they?...the FDA gets the final say...?The FDA's approval is VERY EXPENSIVE, so "Joe Bloe's" drug company can't compete...
On a darker side, what would really blow your mind is if I told you that many of diseases faced today, were not only developed by the same companies developing vaccines, but also released by these profit seekers as the "gun traders of 'olde...Create the Problem, get the Reaction, offer the Solution..(Problem, Reaction, Solution...)In your so called vaccines, many things often "hitch" a ride...not intentionally ofcourse.. (..it's always easier and safer to refuse to believe things like this don't really happen..but they do..)
if by some miracle life was fair and there was a solution,do you honestly think it would come from the government?
You must be kidding, they'd colapse their economy overnight....
It's really sad to hear my Grandfather talk of how confusing it is to him that we suddenly have all of these diseases, that were UNHEARD-OF in his day...???wonder why....

My sympathies 90rocz for your losses, and I hope that you have better luck with healthcare in the future.

That said, your rationale has drifted off into conspiracy territory, and a logical debate just can not exist under those terms.

I'm therefore dropping out of this thread. No hard feeleings at all.

maybe because in his day the idea of germs was a novelty? c'mon, it has to make sense to you that the more medical research is done, the more we understand about what's going on and the more diseases we can diagnose and hopefully treat. just because some things were "UNHEARD-OF" before, doesn't mean they didn't happen. its more than likely they weren't interpreted properly. before germs were "discovered" in the late part of the 19th century, sanitation was a non-issue. but are you going to tell me that people didn't die because of poor sanitary conditions? no wait... germs are a government conspiracy to keep us all in check.
