There's no denying that it was a slow, 16-flat car in the 1/4 mile, but even with the stock exhaust, that engine sounded great - especially at idle. Overall, it remains one of the most fun cars I've ever driven and I'd take it over the new V6 Camaro any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
It's all relative I guess. It's easy to look back 20-25 years and say that a high 15 - low 16 second car is slow, when econoboxes routinely run the same today. Back then though, a badass ride was a 14 second car. Maybe a second or so faster than an L03.

Bottom line is, lots of people wipped out their checkbooks for a torquey, great sounding, cheap to buy V8 option.

Well come look in my driveway in a few months. Hopefully mine will be here by then.

I've seen one at my local dealership (unfortunately they sold it the day before I showed up with the check.

FWIW...

I just completed a 4,300 mile road trip down Route 66 passing through such towns as St. Louis, Amarillo, Albuquerque, etc. and during this trip I saw the only new Camaros I've actually seen "on the road" (up to that point, I've only seen them at various "new" car shows).

The fist one I saw (not on the street actually) was on a transport with several other "unrelated" cars heading East, I would assume being transported from one dealer to another. But, I did see three other new Camaros actually on the street that I would assume were private owners.

While I'm not a "convert" to the Fifth Generation at this point, it was still a nice to see them on the road!
