Hyundia Genesis coupe is a sales flop?
Hyundia Genesis coupe is a sales flop?
June 2009 GENESIS = 1,838 (both Coupe & Sedan) YTD = 9,938
June 2009 CAMARO = 9,320
Camaro is selling in a month what it takes the Genesis coupe and sedan COMBINED to sell in 6 months. I couldn't find a break down but I imagine the sedan sells a little better. I think it is safe to say the Genesis coupe is a flop.

Hyundai hasn't exactly had 7 years of pent-up demand for a sports coupe. And the "Fast n' Furious" kids (if that segment is even still viable) don't buy new coupes, they pick up used Civics.
It's the Genesis sedan's sales that are quite shocking. I figured with all the publicity it got it'd be doing a bit better.

Even in the other thread people thought it would have a chance at challenging the Camaro for sales http://web.camaross.com/forums/showp...8&postcount=35
They were out before the Camaro, it is easier to get one than a Camaro
I think there are too many variables to compare the two cars right now. The Camaro has a rich history with a lot of enthusiasts coming out of the woodwork to purchase the new model.
Hyundai? They're banking on previous Tiburon owners to step up to the plate again and a lot of conquest buyers of cars like the Camaro, Mustang, Eclipse, used 350Z/G35 crowd, etc. Problem is...The Camaro and Mustang are both really good cars right now. Solid names, lots of history, great features. They're legends.
I'd check back after the first year and a half or so when all the "gotta have its" have been satisfied and look at monthly sales figures then. Out the gate, though, it would appear that Hyundai is falling on its face.

Same here with 4-5 coupes and the same amount of sedans. I have yet to see any of either on the road yet. Not sure that I would notice the Sedan though.
That number is for coupe and sedan combined. I don't know what the mix is but either way it is low for both.
I've seen one Genesis coupe on the road (in a parking lot to be exact).
At first, I was like, what kind of car is that? Then a split second later it dawned on me that it was a new Genesis coupe. They don't look bad in real life.
I wouldn't buy a Hyundai if my life depended on it, but it is a nice looking car.
Maybe there isn't a market yet for a premium Hyundai. Let's see how that Equus does.
