Are gas prices going to affect the future of V8 cars?

In all seriousness, in an era where LS1s were rated at 19/28 in 6 speed F bodies, 400hp GTOs are rated at 17/25, DoD 5.3 GXPs are rated at 18/27...uhm, the V8 will remain in demand. The point is, people who can afford these cars will be able to afford to feed them, too. Look at me...I'm driving 2,200 miles round trip to Bowling Green next week. I'll probably spend close to $250, as the car gets around 26 MPG highway, and I feed it 93. If it was my only car, well hey...I'm 25, own a home, and am pretty broke
But I'll pay the extra $$ for premium, and suffer the 2-3 MPG penalty over a conventional car like a 3800 GP. If I could only have one car, I'd still have a V8
I couldn't care less about hybrids. No really...I mean it

Not saying that the V8 muscle car will go away just saying that sales arent going to be as projected. Once again GM missed the boat and now they arnt going to catch it due to such high fuel costs. Its not going to be a mass market car like they would like since many dont want a v8 now and think its uneconomical.

Some milage from GM's bigger engines is rivalring japanese 4-cylinder. For example, 3.4L Impala gets better highway milage than 2.3L Mazda 6.
Which makes me very tempted to go with GTP G6 instead of 4-cyl Mazda 6 GT or Accord EX. Cheaper price, more powerful engine.

I feel research and development of Hybrids might allow me to enjoy my V8 more, and more often, saving fuel on a "daily driver" or work vehicle, and lessening demand for fuel and maybe lowering fuel prices.
I will continue to drive my V8 powered vehicles, for the Power, Sound!, Power
...On the street Torque IS King!..(and off Road in my 4x4...
)In my 5600 pound Suburban, I rarely press the gas pedal over 1/3 or 30%, and it pulls just fine at that...very adequate acceleration.
