Gas prices killed the 5th gen unless it gets 25mpg city and 35 hw. Anyone who denies this is an ***.

You want an awesome gas-mileage daily beater(general question, not directed towards any one person)? Get over your domestic bias and go buy an old Civic vx or CRX HF. 45+mpg was available long ago without a diesel or hybrid tech.

I'm sure there are plenty of high mpg cars in the pipeline with GM right now, I'm just talking about something available immediately.

And no, V8's will still live due to DoD and similar tech. We will always have the power we want, we are too spoiled not to.

Guess I am an *** then. Seems to me v8 cars are still selling well enough right now. I still rarely see a Mustang GT on the lots around here for very long.

Yeah cuz guess what? All those 05 stangs were bought up in late april. You couldnt sell one now with gas as high as it is. Everyone has one word on their mind (hybrid)

Not saying that the V8 muscle car will go away just saying that sales arent going to be as projected. Once again GM missed the boat and now they arnt going to catch it due to such high fuel costs. Its not going to be a mass market car like they would like since many dont want a v8 now and think its uneconomical.

Thats the same thing with the GTO. It seems like people who bought those two cars stuck them in the garage the day after, now with the gas crisis, its either gonna be a candidate for a trade in, or a shut in.

All those 05 stangs are still being bought up now, at least around here. A Ford dealership at my house had a blue one earlier this week, for a few days. Its already gone now. Unless there is some longevity to this gas crunch, I don't think it will hurt sales that much.

Premium is 3.49 around here. I went out driving yesterday, because it was so nice out, and I saw no shortage of people's weekend toys on the roads, from Vettes to Porsches to F-Bodies to Stangs.

'05 GT's run on 87 instead of premium, so that helps a bit.

Im going to have to dissagree, I'm about to buy a firebird formula, I am not afraid of the gas mileage. Those LT-1's get good mileage, but those LS-1's sheeeeeeeeezzz those are great on gas. I also read that the new monte carlo gets 26 in the city? I dont think GM is going to have any problems selling v-8's in the future. Hell they'll even get better mileage as time goes on.

Don't forget though - LS1's want the expensive stuff...

A diesel Aveo (or Cobalt) has been needed for a LONG TIME.

Also, a Diesel Colorado is needed as well (MPG).

I will still be wanting to buy, a V8 RWD Camaro! GM engines get great mpg! I'm certainly not thinking about any hybrids! I don't think it will be a problem, to sell the car that so many ppl have been waiting for.

You guys act like 93 octane is so much more expensive that 87...man, it's only 20 cents more per gallon. it's a dollar for every five gallons, three bucks for every fifteen gallons. Who do you know that runs their gas tank aaaalllll the way down to the bottom? The extra two to three dollars per fill up isn't going ot make me go buy a GT mustang over a Z-28 or SS Camaro. If 20 cents per gallon is going to make you run over and buy a Ford, your decision was made a long time ago. You're probably better off with a Mustang anyways, that way you can find out what my 93 octane exhaust fumes smell like.

I run my tank to about empty every time before I fill up, but it doesn't matter to me if the 5th gen uses 93 or not. There are far more things I have to worry about then paying an extra few dollars at the pump every week.

According to Chevy, the 2006 Monte Carlo has the following ratings:

3.5L V6 - 21/31
3.9L V6 - 19/27
5.3L V8 - 18/28
