I wanna see what the sales really are for 05 before I say anything. I really think the yearly dropoff after this year will surprise people.

well, u ask any high school girl what kind of car they want and i'd bet 50% of them want a mustang convertible. they are all over. I was once ripping on a girl because she was talking about how she wanted a mustang convertible, pointing one out in the autotrader magazine that was for sale. i was saying how it was just a v6 and it was no big deal. she replied "who cares what kind of engine it has in it?" lol

I do too. Except that I think that it's going to surprise different people.

In other words, I think the design has staying power.

And why, exactly, are you quite sure the sales will dropoff after this year?
This is a ridiculous comment. FYI...dealers can't keep them on the lot.

That styling makes me think that, it's all been covered many times. The last car had alot more appeal, and especially to girls and whatever.

Yesterday alone, I saw 6 05 Mustangs. 2 of them being GTs..

I still haven't seen a Mustang GT on the dealership showroom. I agree with whoever said the 05 Mustangs are going to sell up north like crazy when spring comes

Well I would expect it to drop some. As in "duh." Any time a heavily anticipated new vehicle hits the showroom floor, there is always a good sales spike. It is called pent up demand. As that demand is filled, then sales will stabilize.

GT sales are at historically high levels with the '05. The last number I saw was 45%. As this is unprecedented, Ford was not prepared. This has caused the shortage of GT's. When the convertibles hit, you will see even more of a sales spike. Again, in a year or so, sales will stabilize.

I believe that GT sales are typically 35% of Mustang sales.

Ford will work hard to keep sales up, with special editions and upgrades. They have done a good job with Mustang, and will continue to do so.

That's the attitude that helped killed Camaro. Not her's, yours!

First women now purchase more new cars than men. Add in the number of women that influence a man's car purchase, and you are approaching 70-75% by best guesstimates.

Also, the buying public isn't going to buy the most powerful fastest accelerating car available. More MEN bought just Mustang GTs than ALL the men who bought Camaros the last few years both were on the market. As a percentage, more men buy Mustang V6s than buy SUVs. Want to know what cars girls buy or have bought for them? Cars like Honda Sedans and Mitsubishi Eclipses. Explorers & Trailblazers are also "women's" vehicles, but let's keep it on cars.

Men buy the V6 Mustang because of insurence and price. Mustang also already has a strong aftermarket & customizing network, including websites such as http://www.v6mustang.com/ and http://www.mustangworld.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9 that aren't a bunch of "highschool girls" swapping beauty tips.

The sports coupe market is also all but obliterated. Mustang takes up well over 50% of the market, and every single other 2 door sports coupe or hatchback sold in the country (from BMW M3s to Chevy Monte Carlos, to Mitsu Eclipses and beyond) take up what's left. Mustang is also the only car that has it's own structure. Finally, the coupe market is not growing.

That means:
1. Women have to be a part of any market plans regarding future sports coupes.
2. The "engine conquers all" mentality has been long proven obsolete.
3. There's ALOT of misconceptions regarding Mustang's buyer base.

There simply aren't enough "engine in a box" people around to sustain producing an affordable "engine is everything" car.

If you need more proof, then simply compare the sales figures of 2003, 2004, or 2005 Mustangs with same year Camaros and Firebirds.

'Nuff said.

Re: Ford Mustang makes Top 10 Car Sales List

Wonder how many are fleet sales. I rented a new mustang in California a couple weeks ago. Here are my honest thoughts...

1. The car drove nice...decent pickup (v6)
2. Interior was way cheap...however, it may be nice for the price...really haven't looked at cars in this range recently. Plastic seemed really cheap though.
3. Chrome accents on vents was not that smart at all! The chrome reflects in the windshield causing an odd glare.
4. The "tube" effect on the tach and speedo made it impossible for me to see how fast I was going withough tweaking my head down. Not sure why this was done...didn't seem that well thought out.
5. Seat position was nice.

Would I purchase one? #2 would stop my from buying one. Even my passenger mentioned how cheap the interior was (he actually brought it up).

Re: Ford Mustang makes Top 10 Car Sales List

Ill admit as much as I dont like the new mustangs I do see alot of them here in the DFW they are selling like crazy, As others say more then 85% that I see are V6 hardly see any of the GTs. Well That doesn mean to much cause atleast Ford is selling the car unlike GM did selling the Camaro/Firebirds. But IMO the new stangs wont last long people will get sick of seeing them all over the place. Oh and lately I been seeing more GTOs rolling around, Helped a older guy out to his car with his grocerys was a 2005 GTO thing is he bought it new with chrome rims and a differnt spoiler then stock was really nice.

guionM: Men buy the V6 for their daughters to drive....

The 15-18 y/o girls we often speak of dont actually buy the car or get titled to it. Thats why it appears that men buy them. Because they do.

Not surprising that it is selling more than the 300c...there is a pretty big price difference between the two. Over 10k between the V6 'stang and the 300c (before you say "what about the base C"..those are selling like crap and 50% of all 300's sold are C's)
Just so you know, Ford has imposed a 50% order restraint on the GT, since '05 production began. Mustang GT production is being artificially restricted.

And the fact that a 2+2 ponycar coupe is outselling a very, very, hot selling sedan is not only amazing....but should be considered good news to anyone who ever hopes to see a Camaro again. Instead of trying to minimize it, you should be celebrating it.

Don't you get it?
