A followup on the Camaro marketing thread...
Well, you keep bringing up the $19,000 base price, but fail to mention the $1000 (or was it $1500) rebate (and another thou if you had the heritage tours certificate). Not to mention what you negotiate after that. Nobody paid $19k for a stripped Camaro, there were advertised here for 13-14k in the paper. Not saying you got drilled w/ this car or anything, but My Formula was loaded w/ the exception of the changer, and it stickered for 27 and change, I got it for 23 and change. This was w/ all the power stuff, side moulding, rear defoger, ect all STANDARD (on Firebirds but not Camaros). Interestingly, the T/A w/ similar options to mine was only $1000 more, which equated to only a ground effects package, different nose, and bigger spoiler. The $1800 that Chevrolet charged for the ground effects only (no spoiler or nose job) seems like a rip to me.
However, I will go along w/ your value argument. For me personally, I would have not bought an Fbody w/ a V6, because to me, the car wasn't worth it w/out the LS1. This is not a putdown on the car, there were just too many other interesting things out there than a V6 Fbody. If i had to stay GM, I probably would have gotten a GP if I had to go V6. Now if I were seriously budget limited, and the v8 was simply not an option, then I may have gone v6 Fbody, but at only a couple thou more, it was a no brainer for me.
I come back to what I feel the next Camaro should be, and I keep using the Acura CL as an example. The "base car" is very good, and very loaded. The type S is simply an engine/suspension/wheel package on top of what already is a good car, and desireable in it's own right. I wonder if the Camaro had this same type of appeal in its base form, and the SS/Z28 "options" were just icing on the cake, how it would do.

Take a 2...follow it with a 1 and and add a dollar sign and three zeros at the end....what do you get ? $21,000
What is $20,000+$1,000?
Again $21,000
If you have $42,000 and spend $21,000 on a new car...how much do you have left?
Again $21,000...
$21,000

I wonder what the sales numbers on the MC ar really...and what how it would do if it wasn't the only domestic in the midsized coupe class.
In short the reason I bought the Monte up is "People who live in glass houses should not throw stones".

Branden I'm not trying to flame you but maybe you should step away from the computer and go get some fresh air. Your a decent guy and you post good information for the most part. I agree with some things you have said but this thread is getting run into the ground. Your starting to directly attack people opinions. Not cool. If two out of three people don’t like MC I guess me and Darth are one of those idiot third people.
Maybe we should start to end this thread its not going any where.

You are so immature and clueless for someone who tries to be a "GM Insider"!
I suppose you are there everytime every salesman shows every Monte Carlo and everyone of them uses your NASCAR story? Pu-lease. I'd wager you never heard it once and just made it up!

Regardless, looks are subjective, as I'd think you'd understand by now. I think your Camaro looks tacky with those tacked on, overpriced ground effects, but hey - it's your choice.
As for the price... you're wrong. My 2002 Monte Carlo SS has every single option except for the Sport Appearance Package, which isn't my thing... sticker was $26,500 I believe, it had a $2500 rebate as well. after negotiaing, I got it for $24,100 - after the rebate it equals $21,600, or what you paid for YOUR car.... hmmmm... ya, I think I got robbed.

Same interior quality as Camaro?!?!? You've GOT to be kidding!!! I had a 99 Z28 for 3 years. The Monte's interior quality is LIGHT YEARS beyond Camaro. Don't even try to say otherwise. Why don't you look up those quality reports you so often like to quote when you are arguing on the other side of this fence that you jump over every other week!

Everyone has their own opinions and tastes. However, IMO, people that buy Monte's have no taste.
Sorry, I that offends anyone, but that's how I feel.

On top of that it stickers for $27,000

I honestly don't see Camaro and Monte buyers as being the same people. Not that one is better than the other... just different tastes.
No offense intended Darth... really.
Hey Formula....you should have gone Pontiac! Observe....
I figured your sticker against mine, here's how it came out. Our base prices were $5490 apart, but our options (minus my chrome wheels and leather) were $3395 apart, and you ended up on the bad side. Heres how it went down...everything in you PEG was standard on mine w/ the exception of the alarm and keyless entry. I got remote keyless, alarm, power seat and T-tops for $1505. Your traction control was a bargain at $250 (mine was $450, I got ripped
) Your sport appearance pkg, if you want to keep it, could have been offset by just getting a T/A at $1000 more than mine (save $345
). Automatic....$815 for you, standard for me (although I got the no cost 6 spd option). Performance Handling package...would have been irrelevant w/ the LS1, would have gotten it as part of the deal. Power seat....you $270, me part of my $1505 ttop/power pkg). Rear defogger....you $170 (although you'll be happy to know thats what it cost in 1992 as well)....mine, standard. Body side moulding...you $60...me, standard.
All told, your base price was 18,415, mine was 23,905. your options were $5350, mine were $1995 (I didn't include the chrome wheels or leather, but they were $1170 ttl if you care). Destination charge was the same, and our totals came up to $24,340 for you, $26,435 for me. For $2095, you get the LS1 (would you believe we get the same city mpg, and I get 28 to your 30 on the highway?), 245/50 ZR's (standard on Formulas by the way, no 235/55's here), power antenna, and monsoon stereo. That's the kind of value I was talking about. If you like ground effects, add $1000 to that and get a T/A (w/ MUCH nicer seats I might add), and even then $3000 for all of the above plus lumbar and lateral support seats!
Again, I'm not trying to bash your car or anything, these were just the criteria I used when I was buying...the cost savings of the V6 just didn't add up to what you were losing from a performance perspective.

Wait doesn't the SS package include ground effects too....Just throwing stones from inside that glass house....

Now that i look the one I saw at the dealer was a High Sport Appearence package which bases at $26,600. Either way it is over priced for how low tech it is...Plus with the Supercharged SS's coming out at near the same price your car's resale price will drop faster than a hardtop V6 camaro

Ever hear of the Grand Prix GT and GTP COUPE??? Ya, up until 2004 , they were available too, remember?
