It's a fun car to drive, handles well, rides very well, and has plenty of power (it felt as fast as a non-modified 5.0 automatic). It also is small enough to be nimble, but large enough that you not only have an impressive amount of storage space in the trunk, but you don't feel you'll be run over by large SUVs.

People I know who have bought used CHP Crown Vics also call it the ultimate roadtrip car. One guy I know in particular who bought a sinister looking black one (and did some impressive upgrades to his) likes the room, the smooth acceleration, and that it's very easy to drive at high speed.

99.9% of the time, life isn't about the best quarter mile times or beating Ferraris on desserted interstates. It's about having a car that handles well, adsorbs potholes and expansion strips, has enough power to run 90 all day with occasional bursts without stuttering, gasping, or overheating, and you can actually use suitcases instead of gymbags when you pack.

Mustang V6 and Crown Vic most definately deserve to be on that list. But I also feel a great road trip car shouldn't cost you your firstborn either, so I would have excluded the Jag and the Merc.

I would have MOST CERTAINLY included the GTO on that list sure as s*it if it wasn't for those slow moving power seats. IMHO, with it's roomy and comfortable bucket back seats, it's best-in-industry front bucket seats, it's "guaranteed-not-to-overheat-guaranteed-not-to-fail-AC-and-skidplate-equpted" Australian engineering and it's tall (and deceptively useful) trunk make it the ultimate cross country runner, let alone in my view "Road Trip" champ.

I'd also include the Dodge Charger R/T. It's everything the Crown Vic is. Just quicker and in a tidier size.

Civics? Phfsst!
They are city cars for people who value getting from point A to point B who place more emphasis on tight fitting interior gaps than actual maintence schedules.

Pacifica Touring?
Probally great if you have kids or part of a fraternity going with you.

Buick Lecerne CSX?
Uh.....OK...... I can see that one.

Mercedes S550? WTF!
Let's be perfectly blunt here. If you can afford a $105,000 car, you probally are going to your roadtrips in 1st class on a Boeing 7-something-7 from 7 miles up, NOT sitting in your "C-note" car for hours driving to whereever.

It is odd to me. V8s and Mustangs go together, for the most part.

My .02...

It just goes to show you, anyone can put together a list...this is just one person's take.

Buicks...I haven't driven the new one's, but I spent some time in the seats during some autoshows. THE MOST COMFORTABLE SEATS OF ANY CAR I SAT IN!!!! That goes for Lucerne and Lacrosse.

None of the Buicks I come upon on the highways seem to be able to run over 50 mph.

But thats not the cars fault.

Anyway.

Its Edmonds/cnn. Why are we arguing about it. They more than likely drew names out of a hat.

You on the other hand seem to have become very upset about one man's (my) opinion of that article.

Might wanna take your own advice.
If you think I'm upset over what you said, you have way too high an opinion of yourself, as if you or anyone else on the internet could upset me! Your posts are "usually" well thought out, but god forbid someone says something that doesn't include Lexus or Toyota, and you just have to point that out.

Truth be told, if there weren't any GMs on the list, everyone here pointed it out. Threxx is a Toyota/Lexus fan. I would have expected him to point it out.

There's plenty of luggage room in the rear hatch area...easily hidden with the cloth sun shield.

It handles like a dream...while not beating you to death.

Seats are very supportive...and don't feel like grandma's couch.

For people who actually love to drive...the feedback you get from the car, road, engine etc... are WHY you take long road trips in the first place.

Finally, you don't have to sacrifice performance for fuel economy either....I averaged 32 mpg driving my Corvette home to Indiana from Salt Lake City.....1,650 miles in two days.....a fantastic road trip car indeed.

Well...this IS a Camaro/GM site! My point was it's one man's opinion, take it with a grain of salt, yet some people can't just let it go at that.

While were debating the list...its not a new car but the 96 Impala SS is the best highway car I have ever driven. Its so wide and low and it feels very stable at speed. The torque is right there when you need to pass. Awesome car for a chassis as old as it is.

We are discussing the article, right? That is - a bunch of us have read his opinion and are now giving our opinion of his opinion and/or our how we would answer the same question.

I never once got upset... heck, I'm still not upset about his opinion or your disapproval of me giving my opinion in the midst of everyone else doing the same primiarily because I mentioned the LS430 (which is a damn comfortable car to road trip in for sure) and 'this is a camaro/GM site'.

You are very obviously upset by my opinion whether or not you want to admit it - it comes out in the way you've worded your replies.

Back to your regularly scheduled arguements.

Huh... I must have missed where I gave my opinion of myself.

It's ironic that you're telling me to give it a rest when it was you who started the antagonization process in an otherwise docile thread.

I'm glad you still aren't upset. I guess it just doesn't come across that way when you attack people for their opinions, attack them as a person, use all caps, and lots of exclamation points.
