NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Neither high gas prices or cheap airline tickets can diminish America's love of the open road, whining kids and greasy food.
Load 'em up and move 'em out! Summer's coming and it's road trip time again.

That means it's also time to come up with a list of cars that would be great to take on a road trip. MONEY magazine's Sam Grobart and I put together our list of picks, selecting the cars we'd most like to take on an interstate run, with or without a family along for the ride.
For starters, a good road trip car must have:
* A great deal of comfort for at least one person, but probably more
* Space for some luggage, more is better
* Highway fuel economy that is at least not shock-inducing
Performance is good to have, though. You probably won't be on boring, gray interstates all the time. The car should be able to handle winding blacktop as well. But not at the expense of a comfortable highway ride.
Road trips are about the near-forgotten joy of cruising. There is more to the pleasure of driving than tearing away from stop lights and getting thrown around in high-G turns. An easy-going drive in a really nice car with some favorite tunes on the radio can be a great way to leave more than just your hometown behind.

I agree though, nice to see a whole lot of domestics up there. Only 1 Japanese car is surprising as well.

Anyway, I still don't get why they chose a v6. If a 300 had been on the list, I am sure it would have been a Hemi model.

I know I'm going to get laughed at or whatever but every year my friends and I drive 600+ miles to see some other friends and go out party and have fun for about 3-4 days. Anyway, we've been using my friends 2003 Ford Focus and it's a great road trip car. Lots of room front and back, surprisingly loads of trunk space, decent mileage, very nice direct steering, peppy motor, very smooth even at higher speeds. The only thing that's wrong with it is the 110 MPH speed limiter, the car is so smooth at 90 it feels like nothing and it's very easy to creep to the limit without even realizing it.

That's a strange list. For a long road trip I'd want to be as comfortable as possible and as entertained as possible. Give me a Lexus LS430 or 460 - quietest car on the road, one of the smoothest riding, and really nice sound system.
If I didn't have too far to drive and didn't have a lot of luggage and it was nice outside then I'd take a Vette 'vert for sure.

Hemi has the advertising support.
I dont like SUVs, but if im going on a road trip, an SUV whould be my first choice. Probably an Envoy.

Of course, an RV might be nice too. Just not too much to brag about in the performance arena.

Give it a rest! I'm sure the list would have been fine if Lexus or Toyota was included. It's just one man's opinion, so take it with a grain of salt, because I'm sure if it was a "real" list it would be comprised of 4 Lexus' and 4 Toyota's! (Please take note of the sarcasm!)

You on the other hand seem to have become very upset about one man's (my) opinion of that article.
Might wanna take your own advice.
Re: Eight Great Road Trip Cars (CNN/Edmonds)
I know some are surprised that the Corvette made this list...but as an owner, I can't think of a more perfect Road Trip Car.
There's plenty of luggage room in the rear hatch area...easily hidden with the cloth sun shield.
It handles like a dream...while not beating you to death.
Seats are very supportive...and don't feel like grandma's couch.
For people who actually love to drive...the feedback you get from the car, road, engine etc... are WHY you take long road trips in the first place.
Finally, you don't have to sacrifice performance for fuel economy either....I averaged 32 mpg driving my Corvette home to Indiana from Salt Lake City.....1,650 miles in two days.....a fantastic road trip car indeed.

Ya, thank god ford does advertise it somewhat, or else people would think ford is trying to sell them a horse!
