Early Camaro proposal??
The first time I saw the Nomad concept I thought it was a retro Camaro wagon, but I'm a first gen lover so I tend to notice anything first gen related right away. I think it has potential to be a nice lookin car. I kinda think this Nomad looks more like a '57 Camaro than a '67'8 or '69, so it just needs to be more modernized and I'll dig it.

Let's stick to the ideas over at C&G.

Not to mention the wheel opening rakes also present on both.
From the window-line down and the rear wheels forward, the 1999 Nomad meets all the criteria identified at C&G. Just replace the Belair hood with a 4th gen SS hood and you're there.
I think the design of that car can be made to work with ALOT of tweaking. Keep in mind that this was a 1999 car and IF it was a starting point and they stuck with it, it would be hella refined by now. Also I'm still believing the 5th gen will be a great car. If guion says that people who have seen the car have said "it looks bada$$", then it has to look somewhat decent.
If the car goes this way and basically goes retro, I'm out, again. I know Guion says it's not but I just wonder what if they change their minds at the last second or something. It looks like they are trying to just do what was already done by designers 36 years ago. I mean I like 1st Gens some myself, (my second favorite Gen) but lets face it, alot of people like 1st Gens just because they are 1st Gens. Their history, being first,, power, models, etc. They didn't have popularity quite like they do now years ago.
They were not the best looking Camaros, even a little plain compared to the more racy cars that came after them. Take 10 random people that don't particularly know Camaros apart from each other and maybe 10 more that are somewhat familiar with them, take a few nice examples of 1st Gen top cars from all 3 years and then have them compare it to some early 80's Z28's, IROC-Z's, and 91-92 Z28's. I'd bet money on nearly every person picking the 3rd's over the 1st's, and not just because they are more modern looking. I'm not saying make the new car look just like 3rd's, (even though they won the survey!) what I am saying is that there is more to the Camaro than the 1st Gen, alot more, and it can and should be put into the new car. Hopefully they are thinking that too.

most old musclecars look alike to the average joe (i know they did before i found out what each one was and what ti looked like)
but a 3rd gen (trying to be impartial) sort of sticks out on its own because no real car looks quite like it
edit: i do like the bill lumburg voice "yeaaaaaaah, i'm gonna need you to come in on saturday and sunday, yeeeeaaaah, that'd be great"
outside of the first gen, I think the third gen looks the best. I know I am probably in the minority, and if you ask on other sites you will get the "redneck" moniker slapped on you quicker then you can say mullet. But a clean third gen is one of the finest looking camaros out there. 2nd and 4th are very soft in there lines, and first gens are first gens. They set the tone, nothing can follow it. The third gen looks unique when compared to what else is out there, but not a reto-unique, not a weird ugly Aztek unique, but a strong, ferrari-esque unique. I think that GM should look at the lines of Ferrari's 612. Its a brand new 2dr, 2+2 coupe and looks fantastic. I wish GM would look at that before they jump into any retro cues.
and I think it fits alot of what has been set out on here as the lines of the new camaro, without looking retro at all
BigAls, stereotypes like that are for morons and ignorant fools.
As a Third Gen owner you should know that by now after meeting other owners too.
jg, you did nice work there PSing it to make the car look how you wanted. The windshield sure is big and the sides sure are flat though. That is also a really high up looking car. Still, not what I want to see though, too retro and uninspiring. I also like 67's-68's better than 69's. Note to GM: If there must be a quarter window, use the 1st Gen type and not the Chevelle type.

I think that people are beginning to stray somewhat. I don't recall anyone actually saying that the new car is based upon the Nomad concept. Guoin merely implied that the styling for the new car may have it's roots in the 99 concept. People have picked up on the Nomad part of it and are now running (scared) with it.
The photochopping that was done, was to quickly put together a hybrid of the Nomad and the roofline of my own drawing (SS based) for speculative puposes (I'm assusming). Nothing more. People are not now saying that the C&G path is done and we're going this way. What's up with that(?). It's pretty much the same direction - if you strip away the histrionics and posturing. This is not meant as flame towards anyone, I'm speaking in generalities here. So, please, no one get offended.
We do know (well, "know" may be a little strong:-) that the grille area of the Nomad is SIMILAR to the new car. Said front end has evolved and been refined. Probably still is in that process. The new car however has apparently 4 headlights not 2 as in the Nomad. The chrome bar would also seem to be greatly toned down - not a bad thing. The front of the car is raked back, not upright like the Nomad. I think too, that the character of the sides of the car is more SS-like than the Nomad but with the addition of bodyside spears. Apparently the 3/4 windows are not 1st gen-like (which I would personally prefer) but more rounded - perhaps Chevelle-like in appearance.
I would also think that the new car is somewhat more upright but not so much as the Nomad. A bit of a break from the 3-4th gen stance may not be a bad thing. Ultimately the car has to move ahead and be more palatable to a somewhat larger base of people than strictly the purists for it to survive.
Remember, the styling has been said to be pretty much set in stone. As has been said (by Guoin and others) - really, only details can change without delaying the car further.
