Sounds like a great ride. Here's to hoping the V6 Camaro will be as much fun!

Only complaint on the G6 line for me is that the coupe looks too Solara-ish. I saw one early in the day and one 20 min later. They looked pretty damn close to me (which for my taste in style, is a bad thing.) JMHO though.

Re: Drove all 3 G6 engine choices back to back...

Thanks for the help Jason. I'm going to go check one out on Monday (is the M6 even at dealers yet?) as well as the new N/A SS coupe. How is the cloth interior on the G6's? I don't know if I want to pay $1300 for leather. Hopefully they'll let me drive it, cause very few dealers around here let young guys like me test drive anything

Re: Drove all 3 G6 engine choices back to back...

I"ve seen the Sedan in person Jason haven't seen the coupe yet though. I've seen the sedan in that greenish grey color I believe it was GTP or GT looked nice. I gotta see the coupe up close to get a final evaluation on it though. Just from what ive seen of the coupe I don't like it as much.

Thing I dont like is that I'm seeing Cobalts pop up everywhere around here and I love the car and want one bad but the bad thing about a affordable car there's at least about 4 like yours in the area.

I still haven't been able to see a G6 in that Electric Blue color if the vehicle don't look good in blue or black for me then it's a dud, I do like the G6 just I catch myself not liking the sleekness of it as much at times but I'll have to find a Electric Blue G6 coupe around to give my final judgement.

Re: Drove all 3 G6 engine choices back to back...

I tried to go look at a G6 GTP today. None of the dealers in this area had any available, and had no idea when they were gonna get them in. I did go look at a Mazda 6 though, and I have to admit that I really liked this car. With a V-6, manual trans, Bose stereo, and sunroof, it came to 21,400 after rebates. This is cheaper then even a G6 GT, and about 2K less then a comparable GTP. I really can't justify a G6 at a higher price, since the Mazda is nicer inside and out IMO. I think Pontiac has to adjust their Value pricing some more. The only bad thing is that even with the manual, the V-6 Mazda only gets 19/26mpg, about the same as the more powerful GTP.

I think I will go ahead and get the Mazda this week unless you guys can recommend some other cars I didn't think of yet.

BTW I also drove the Cobalt SS and a WRX and I found both cars to have an overly sensitive clutch and extremely peaky powerband. NO power at all under 4K and then a sudden rush which I didn't like at all. Also the SS was not nearly as fast as I expected, but this could have been due to the 300+ lb salesman who rode with me. Suprisingly my Camaro felt a lot more solidly built and handled better then either of these cars. The SS understeered horribly. The 6 felt almost as fast then the other 2, and I was amazed how well it stuck to the road.

Well, one reason your 6 is so cheap is because its an '05, not an '06!! You can't blame that on Pontiac, can you? You can get an '05 GT for $24,800 with the optional sunroof. Then you have the $1,000 rebate, then the employee pricing saves you around another $2,500 - $2,700 (whatever invoice - holdback saves you). So $23,800 - at least $2,500 = $21,300...but you claim the Mazda is less???

But wait...how about an '06 GTP with the revised pricing structure? With a 240hp engine, manual transmission, larger 18" wheels, stability control standard, XM radio standard, Monsoon stereo standard and a sunroof you can get your GTP in an '06 for an MSRP of $25,500 - $2,000 markup - $1,000 rebate = $22,500. So wait...now your Mazda is a year older, has 20 less HP, less features...but wait, you saved $1,100 But you claim Pontiac's value pricing is screwed up???

I think you see my point. If you HAVE to have a car THIS WEEK, enjoy the Mazda. Otherwise, wait a few weeks for the 6 speeds to show up!!! 1990 Turbo Grand Prix (Lew) said his dealership just delivered their first 6 speed.

Of course, if buying an import doesn't bother you, or the fact that you can have a 1 year newer Pontiac for $1,100 more (factory order the damn thing if you have to!!) doesn't bother you either, then have fun with the Mazda. But for the love of god...at least get the facts a little clearer before running to the Mazda dealer.

I don't mean to be offensive...just look at it objectively. Pontiac is not nearly as far off as you seem to think.

Re: Drove all 3 G6 engine choices back to back...

I never liked mazda for their quality.

In the 2005 jdpower initial quality ranking they finished next to last. 149 problems per 100 cars.

Pontiac finshed with 129 per 100. The jdpower site gives the G6 13 for 20 in quality, it gives the mazda 6 10 for 20. Heres the company ratings.

Re: Drove all 3 G6 engine choices back to back...

You're right, I forgot the Mazda's a year older, but I still don't see how you got that price for the G6. I would love to get a Pontiac rather then a Mazda but going by Edmunds the G6 is significantly more. Maybe I'm missing something but Edmunds puts the GTP I want (4-door, 6-speed, Premium Value Package 2) at 26,685 with 24,555 invoice. It's also showing a 1,000 rebate. Are you telling me that I can somehow get another 2K off? Is this something they will take off right away like the rebate, or do I have to haggle with them over it?

If I factory ordered one, how long would it take to be delivered? I would love my car optioned exactly as I want and to be the right color.

BTW Jason, is the dealership you work for anywhere close to I-95? I'm going to be heading up to RI this weekend and if it's not too far out of my way, I could stop by and you could show me how great the G6 is.

Re: Drove all 3 G6 engine choices back to back...

maksik,

I was trying to compare an apple to an apple...I quoted you a GTP with a roof, not the value package. But even then, I don't see how you get to $26,700. $24,835 is a base GTP, and the value package is $1,500 which brings you to $26,300, but then you get a $500 discount!! So to me, $25,885 is your #. $1,000 rebate is $24,800, then take out your $2k markup assuming you have no rebate, and you're at $22,800 now instead of the $22,500 I originally quoted you. I just checked it on www.nadaguides.com. Unless you're adding something else, too? $25,885 is your GTP 6 speed with the package.

Unfortunately, I-95 is the other half of MA, out towards Boston. I'm 30-40 minutes east of NY, so I'd be a fair 3 hour ride or so from RI If you have any other questions though, feel free to PM me...I'd be happy to help.

Good luck

Re: Drove all 3 G6 engine choices back to back...

Ah HAH...I got it. You want the panoramic roof one, eh?? Yeah, add $750 extra then. Now wait...how fair is it to compare a 6s with a normal roof to a G6 with a $1,500 sunroof, then say GM is overpriced???

My price above is for a normal sunroof, just like the 6s. Unless you have kids, honestly, I'd skip the panoramic roof. They're neat and a cool conversation piece, but IMO the only people that get much advantage from them are rear seat passengers. Up front, it feels the same as a regular sunroof to me...

Like I said, we must compare apples to apples The G6 is a better deal then you think!
