Does the Ferrari 458 Italia have a problem??

It seems either people don't know how to drive or its possessed...

It is the 10th car in 91 days that has been crashed or has burned down.

Top Gear loved it on the track. The fact that they got rid of the indicator stalk is completely ridiculous and idiotic. Also the MFD's that show either the speedo or the nav is pretty dumb as well. Should have perhaps put a digital speedo on the giant tach. Jeremy demonstrated the problem quite nicely.

I doubt there is too much of a problem with the car itself, just that it is a powerful mid engine car that is very fast and very expensive. Probably the guys that wrecked them simply had more money than driving skill.

Even with a broken nose that thing is gorgeous.

But if I were rich enough to be in the market for one, the lack of a stick would turn me off.

+1, y'know I think the current 911 GT2 RS (I think I got that right) only comes with a manual. On the down side the Porsche has a much greater pucker factor by dint of its factory racer status.

I bet a few of these accidents are because of the driver fiddling with all the steering wheel controls!

Beautiful car with amazing performance.
I too wish it had a proper manual gearbox as an option and because of that I won't buy one...

I didn't see where it said that they would make it?

Why would they go through all that trouble to only pick up about 50hp? At the very least, put in the V12 from the FXX Evoluzione

Ferrari Recalls 458 Over Fire Risk

At Jalopnik it says:

We’ve heard from one owner tonight that they received a letter from Ferrari claiming a gas overflow tube and gas vapor system were placed too close to the engine, thus creating the possibility of a fire. The owner was told they can take their vehicle to their dealer to receive a fix. We’re currently trying to confirm this report and will update you as soon as we get it.

Official recall:
http://jalopnik.com/5627034/ferrari-...called-tonight

Ferrari has determined the cause of the 458's that have caught on fire was from an adhesive that attached the heat shield under the rear fenders.
The heat shields were attached with an adhesive and became flammable under high temps. The new shield will be attached rivets, not any type of adhesive. Every 458 produced will get this new part so call your dealer now and set up your appointment which of course is free of charge.

That's great for the people who still have a Ferrari. Are the people who were the "test subjects" getting their car replaced?
