I guess that all depends.

After all is said and done, if Cadillac gets a strong, visionary leader, I just don't see them letting that happen.

In "the plan" which GM submitted to the feds, it still states Cadillac's goal is matching Mercedes Benz. You just don't do that by watering down the brand with 'near luxury' Buick and trucks.

Beyond that, combining Buick with Cadillac, ultimately means that Cadillac cannibalizes and then euthanizes Buick. Actually......sounds like EXACTLY something GM might stumble into. IF Cadillac doesn't get strong leadership that is...

Nevertheless, Buick cannot survive as a stand alone - it needs a well thought out GMC. And Buick itself needs to be well thought out.

Agreed. It doesn't really make any sense to put them together. That is unless you wanted to fade Buick out slowly.

Combining Buick and Cadillac could work. The advantage I see is that Cadillac could be left with only sportier or high end luxury models, matching up with BMW and Mercedes cars, as well as with Infiniti and the IS, GS, and LS Lexuses.

Buick could match up to Volvo, Lexus ES, Lincoln, lower level Audis, etc. -- any FWD luxury car that typically isn't sporty. They could even do a RWD car (Holden) to match up to the Genesis (leaving Cadillac to eventually go up against Lexus LS and Mercedes S Class).

For SUVs, Caddy could stick to the bling and Buick understated elegance.

I'm going to hold off on what I think this all means until I hear what is said in the morning.

But I will say this, If Pontiac is gone my automotive future is completely in the wind.
