The purpose of SVT is much the same. However, I don't see SVT offering two different levels of the 'SVT' Focus. The SVT version is dedicated to one thing, and that is the most factory performance you can get out of each car offering. When you buy SVT, you know what you are getting. This is where I thought Chevy was taking the 'SS' moniker but it looks like I'm wrong? Now you'll be able to say "well I bought an SS but it's the 'lower' SS...." It's ambiguous and just doesn't make any sense.

I betcha the article got it's facts mixed up. Have to wait and see though. Look at the wording again...The first time I read it I did a . The way the explain the models in the article, you would think they would just come out and say that the supercharger is an option. However, when you read it it talks about the nat. aspriated engines in all 3 and then without skipping a beat talks about a supercharged SS. Almost like the author doesn't even know what naturally aspirated means.

SVT for Ford represents a lower volume niche vehicle. Chevy may have higher volume aspirations for "SS". The Silverado SS vs Lightning is a good example of GM's strategy here. The Silverado SS is purely designed for higher volume than SVT Lightning.....not necessarily higher performance. SVT on the otherhand, truly "sweats the details"on their niche products. They improve the performance of the cars/trucks that they take on, in every way they can possibly get away with. And they get an awful lot of lee-way from management to do just that. I know that first hand, since my daily driver is an SVT Contour.

Regarding the SVT Focus, it is available in both 3 door hatchback and 5 door sedan. If I am not mistaken, next year's SVT Focus will have a 220 hp turbo motor to go along with it's normally aspirated 170.

IF this is the case, good. Its still an if AFAIK, however. Plus, the cost needs to be down. I can see a Solstice 2 place convertible with a blower going up to $25,000 or so, but the 4 seat coupe MUST stay under 20 grand NA. If not, they will lose market share. Plus, some will be scared away by the fact its RWD...at least where the snow flies.

Motortrend says - " Cobalt will have more standard equipment than the Cavalier and will come in LS, LT and SS models. The SS version will have a 220-horsepower engine that is expected to sell in low volumes but attract attention to the Cobalt."

I'd say the SS will be supercharged I4 only.

I'd also guess that the 2004 Saturn Redline will have it's S/C I4 rated at 220HP not 200

Weren't they going to de-orbit (read: crash into the earth) all of their satellites a while back? Or did that already happen?
