That's funny. I named a high-end audio line "Cobalt" about 13 years ago just because I liked the name. The model numbers were all engine CIs, like Cobalt 327, 350, etc.--kind of an inside joke.

I do!

The new car will be developed on GM's fwd Delta architecture. Dealers who saw it last month say the car does not resemble the 2003 Saturn Ion, the first Delta car.
Thank God!

I like the "bar" too but I do not want to see it on every Chevy car. I also like the name Cobalt but it does not sound like a car name, maybe because of association with other things. I would liek to see what this car will look like, especially the SS..........not that i would buy one.

I don't have a particular preference between methods of boost, but turbos are easier to turn up to higher and higher levels and for whatever reason carry more panache with the young crowd. What is totally illogical is the fact that, if that article is correct, Chevy is intentionally choosing to water down the SS badge that is supposed to be the all-out performance marquee by offering a "non supercharged" SS. WHY? Just call that thing RS or something.

I used to think Focus was a dumb name for a car as well, so maybe Cobalt will have similar success. Guess I shouldn't complain too much however. They could've called it the Chevrolet GXQ 2000 or something.

I don't think the there will be two SS version, I think that was probably a miss print.

1) Good move droping the Cavaliar name.

2)Cobalt is a better element to name a car after than neon.

3)Chrome bar looks awesome on the Chevy trucks, not the best Idea for cars (I think the Impala pulls it off good though)

If that's the logic then they should of gone with one of the exotic heavy elements. Like

IRIDIUM
that just sounds like it takes names

Actually, I think it's a pretty smart move to leverage the SS sub-brand to the right people. After all, the whole purpose of SS is to make a whole bunch of people buy cars.

A normally aspirated Cobalt SS with a 170-180 hp Ecotec, and the right wheels, image, etc., at an easily attainable price is a great move. I'll bet they'll sell like hotcakes. And for the bucks up, entry level buyer....a supercharged SS is available.

Besides, if GM reads this board, I'm sure they have gleaned something on percieved image. As most of us know, many, (if not most), previous SS's were nice, but somewhat pokey junior muscle cars. Some were merely well trimmed econo-cars. And yet, there are those that believe that every SS came standard with a big block LS-6 and ran 12's on bias ply tires, right off the showroom floor.

If history repeats itself, I'm sure we'll be reading on future boards 25 yrs from now, people insisting that every 1st gen Cobalt SS came with a supercharged motor.

I thought I'd throw this in. Branden reports that the mystery red car from the "make a wish" photo, is in fact the Cobalt.

if the front end of that thing looks good and the car has a better interior and the 220hp story is true then kudos to GM! I will also give the Cobalt the

I wonder if the silver car behind the red car is the Cobalt's front end?

Does Chvrolet of North American still offer a full-size car?

The "Cobalt" name sounds cool to me Chevy's haven't really been known for high RPM engines (compared to imports), so a supercharged 4 banger shifting at 6 grand fits the image better. Besides, off idle torque should be much nicer than a factory turbo car.

As a Pontiac dealer, bad move on not replacing the Sunfire as a base car. Not everyone wants a friggen 4 door wagon who's in the small car market! I know I wouldn't. The Vibe is nice, but has limited appeal. Pontiac is supposed to be the sporty line, right? Give it a nice, sporty small car...

The more times goes on, the more I hate GM...but hey, at least they're giving us the chrome bar

Perfectly said.

I have questioned this premise from the first time I heard it, but it seems to be the truth...

The best line is that the Vibe has "limited appeal"... so true... by being a 4-door wagon, it really does.

Make-a-wish car is the Colbalt coupe? Seems Chevrolet may have a winner on their hands then. That should make the silver car a Colbalt as well.

If Pontiac is getting the supercharged RWD Solstice coupe instead of a version of the FWD Colbalt, then where's the problem??
