CNN reporting that GM will kill off Pontiac
If Buick is making a lot of bucks overseas, then it wouldn't make sense to kill it off. Why get rid of a brand that's making money?
The thing I don't understand is why they'd axe Pontiac considering it's like their #3 brand with respect to sales volume... unless they're not making enough money on the Pontiacs they sell.
I don't feel that the govt is forcing them to do anything. If GM weren't asking for - and receiving - govt bailout money, they could do whatever they wanted. But if they're receiving the money (which is their choice) then they need to do what the new "owners" say.
It's very unfortunate. I can't believe that GM, which was a cornerstone of US industry, is now in such deep s***... truly unbelievable

These bondholders would see a better return if GM was entirely liquidated in Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Only the government is keeping them alive at this point, hoping there can be a compromise where GM is split into "good" and "bad" parts and only partially liquidated.
Everyone (and I mean everyone) agrees that GM is no longer a viable corporation. Of course it's their fault, they put themselves into this situation.
