Re: Charger coupe...

That's a pretty hot looking pic.

I like the older car styling........but I wasn't born early enought to enjoy it firsthand.

Now that all these retro style concepts are out and about.........possibly I'll have my chance - and have a new&better engine lineup to pick from.

Re: Charger coupe...

I wish the title to this thread was something else. It's nothing but a photoshop and I was hoping for a coupe pic of what will actually be sold.

I dont care either way on the retro debate...the new mustang is growing on me and its not like 'retro' is a recent discovery anyways. GM and Ford don't have the ***** to come out with NEW and DISTINCT designs/styles anyways, so as long as I have my (pro) domestic bias, I'll just live with it.

I think the actual Charger coupe will be badass as well. And having said that, I'm glad this revival/phoenix will NOT be retro.

That'll make Mustang sales go down a bit I can only hope I can afford to be one of the first on the block with one of those!

Re: Charger coupe...

Like the pic above I think all they needed to do was just make the current car a two door. It doesn't have to have a retro front and rear end change. It just needs to shed the two rear doors and a little overall length. It has some aggressive lines and looks decent, it's just that it's a freakin 4 door that is killing it for me. That just adds too much size and kills the look or a sports/muscle car to me. I would definitely dig the current car in two door form, not only would it look better it would shed some size/weight from the car which at this point is pretty damn bloated...

Re: Charger coupe...

I'm not sure how much weight it would lose (probably not a lot) but edmunds.com suggests that its likely that the coupe editions might come as well, as special model names...with the SRT8 set-up.

It really makes me wish the Charger was a coupe and not a four door. That's purdy.

Isn't that Brian Cope's car from pro-touring.com? I'm sure it is, man that thing is sweet, maybe one day, I can get mine to look as good! Back to topic. You beat me to it with your first post! It seems GM is not allowed to do, dare I type it R***O! Its only OK for the other brands, that new Mustang is about as retro as you can get, and the masses are eatin' em up! HMM?

But it being retro is in itself not the reason for their popularity. Look at the T-bird...its designs were way better than the 05 Mustang and they shot themselves in the foot with it.

Exactly, just like the SSR, retro looking does have a chance of being popular as long as it is priced right and it has some good advertising. Just throwing something out there and hoping people will buy it at a premium price won't cut it.

I will admit to my own BIAS, as I've loved the style of the SSR from day 1. The price is a bit high, but nowhere near where the Prowler was, and has atleast got a V8, that will really respond to the right mods! Some one else mentioned the T-bird, again I must admit my BIAS here as well, as I've always hated the look of the original T-birds, so its no surprise I felt the same a bout the new retro ones. And yes they shot themselves in the foot with the damn price of it, and they have no ballz like the Prowler (which I liked by the way). With the SSR though I always liked the old chevy trucks looks, so as such I liked the SSR. And the price is not quite as premium for what you get, IMO. Now the Charger pic does look sweet, for me though, it looks like they put a 69 Charger body over the new ones ground effects. Now I also happen to like 69 Chargers, that is why I liked the original Charger concept. I like the pic, its just that its not real. It just seems that when you mention retro and Camaro in the same sentence ppl seem to got nuts, and here's an obviously retro Charger pic and ppl are lovin' it! Seems like a double standard. If you like the original, one would think, you would like to see a modern interpretation of it. GM seems to have a whole set of rules they have to play by.
