Yes. it is what i expected. For $25,000 in 2004, I am quite satisfied. Sure there could be more, but I think it is a fine performer for the price.

What do I expect from GM? If they ever get around to making a Camaro again, I would expect it to have higher performance levels, but cost substantially more. I do not expect a "bang for the buck" champ like the 93-02 cars.

Bob..... What made you choose the Cobra over the Z06? Just curious

Re: Car & Driver 05 Mustang GT 13.8 @102

LOL. Honest answer? At great personal risk....the wife talked me out of getting the Z06. The reasons made sense, in that she knew I'd tinker with whatever I got, and the Cobra is a known commodity for me and my garage. Also, both her and a good friend of mine pointed out that the Vette had similar ergonomics to the 99 T/A I had...meaning you 'fall in' and 'climb out', which is one of the reasons I sold that car (some people don't mind - personal preference). I also prefer a more upright seating position. Finally, I could get a new 04 for somewhat less than a 2002 Z06 with decently low mileage.

I came very, very close to getting the Z06. I think I would have been happy with it, but in the end, and especially in a few months when I get started doing silly stuff with the Cobra, I think it will have been the right decision. If not....well....it will be paid for in 2 weeks.

I've never got to drive a 03/04 Cobra. I was lucky enough to drive a 03 Z06 on a 100mile trip I have to say it's my dream car.

As for the base car..an 02 Forumla is faster than an 05 GT for the same price (adjusted for inflation of course).

Still not an LS1 beater..or an LT1 killer but it didn't have to be to sell cars. And honestly..who the hell cares about stock cars. It will be an LS1 Killer if it starts runnin better times with just bolt-ons (same type of mods for each)

That actually makes sense. Thanks for sharing.

Bottom line: the engines aren't even close to the same size, except in number of cylinders.

sheez.

I mean really. Let's cut to the chase. "Big Al" is a whiny little kid with a chip on his shoulder. If it doesn't say GM, it doesn't need to be on this planet. The 05 Mustang could run 12.2 bone stock, get 45 mpg, run on ****, cost $15k, look like your favorite super Model, and "Big Al" would still find a reason to hate it...simply because it says "Ford" and is called "Mustang.

By the same token, if there were a 2005 Camaro, it could run 16.1 sec 1/4 mile, get 10 mpg, require 104 octane, cost $55k, look like a Malibu Maxx, and "Big Al" would try to find a way to convince us that this was the best thing to come out of Detroit since.....well...it's just the best thing!

Guaranteed.

Of course, he comes here and post new stuff (plagerized from other sites) from time to time, so that makes him one of those "in the know". He's not an enthusiast in the least - rather, he is a little more than a GM apologist. A sad one at that.

There. No BS. No beating around the bush. And I apologize in advance to the folks that run this Forum.

True.

I've said it time and time again, considering it is supposed to be the "base performance v8" in the mustang lineup, 13.6 or 13.8 is nothing to laugh at. Who knows, we may get consistent high 12's from a mid-performance trim special edition (mach or boss) and low to mid 12's from Cobra. Unlike our camaro's, mustangs offer multiple-powertrains and performance offering/trims unlike z28/SS where you get similarly fast cars with basically the same output. Due to Fords strategy of really seperating their trim levels with actual performance differences, it's no surprise that the GT got the lowest output and least performance.

But one month into availability of the LS1 in the '98 Camaro, the best time available was a 13.9. So comparing month for month, the Mustang is .3 seconds faster, which means that the best you'll be able to get for an '05 Mustang will be 12.4, which proves that the '05 Mustang really is faster than an LS1, just as I guaranteed three years ago!

Sorry ... I couldn't resist.

Actually, I think it was 12.89.
But yeah...I guess that's a 12.8.

Yes, it was a 12.89. I think the mph was about 108-109 and that was from a 99' Z28.

I just read Motor Trend's test of the new Stang, and they got 0-60 in 5.1, and a 1/4 mile of 13.6, pretty impressive, seeing that they got the same out of the GTO and it has 50 more hp than the Stang, i'd still take the GTO over it though!!
