Car & Driver 05 Mustang GT 13.8 @102

For those of you who don't get the mag, they tested an 05 Mustang GT and got a 13.8 at 102 out of it. With a five speed manual too.

Zero to 60 in 5.2.

The car doesn't seem as fast as a lot of people here claimed it would be...

That's actually a very good time for Car and Driver. I'm pretty sure they only got a 13.9 out of a 6-speed LS1.

Only the track will tell. I do think the LS1s will be .2 - .3 ticks quicker at the track on average. If not, then I'll be real impressed.

Wrong. C&D have gotten several different times out of LS1s.

C&D's best time with an LS1 is a 13.5 @ 107, 0-60 4.9

It was an 99' btw. Those trap speeds on the LS1 are good for low 13s.

Ok. You said yourself, several different times, with a best of 13.5 @ 107.

This is 1 test. Their first and only one. When there have been several tests, over the course of years........... can Mustang fans pick the best one then??? Or, are they stuck with the first one for all eternity???

I'm just trying to figure out the rules.

The rules on a Camaro site are thus: Pick the slowest Mustang time and the fastest Camaro time

13.8 is respectable, but I have a hard time with them not beating the auto from MT review. Of course conditions may have been different...

With the 5 speed automatic, the "average" driver will probably be consistantly quicker in the automatic than in the manual.

I have no problem understanding it.

Different driver, different location, different conditions.

One owner of a new '05 GT on another board did say something interesting. He said that, while he has owned many different Mustangs, this one drives and reacts totally different. Thus, he will have to learn to drive this one good before he gets a decent time with it. It wasn't an excuse, but an explanation to people who asked him direct questions about it.

While people love to pick and choose times from different magazines, or different owner around the country............ the fact remains that the only times that are directly comparible are those done on the same track, same day, and hopefully by drivers of equal talent.

The chances of that happening are pretty slim............. so many like to base their bash fest on these "bests" plucked from various places.

Whatever pops your tarts.

Personally, I think it is great that we are actually seeing acceptable times this early in this new cars life cycle............. especially considering that it is a completely new car on a completely new platform. Of course, I do realize that the bashers will see it very differently.

Well, there are several runs. Only 4 are verified though...the other ones are just "my friend saw this".

Contrary to what you're saying, we are using the best time so far for the mustang, which would be from an automatic believe it or not.

MT: 13.6@98 with an auto
C&D: 13.8@102 with an M5
Video posted of two GT M5s running 14s.

It looks to me that only exceptional drivers will be able to beat MTs Automatic time. It's funny how all of you like to downtalk the magazines ability to drive, but they've posted the best times so far.

It may have been Motortrend then...it was a direct comparo between the Camaro and Mustang. The stang did a 14.1 and the Camaro 13.9 (which I thought was laughable).

Bottom line is, its a drivers race now...with the edge still going to the LS1 based on the trap speeds of the GT. You can certainly improve on ET. Maybe we'll see low 13s but I would be real surprised if we started seeing 107-109 traps. And that there is the difference. Highway rolls, where most races take place, will be won by the LS1s. With that being said, I love the new stang and hope to get an SE next year unless we hear something on the 5th gen soon.

I see you didn't get it.

I said "several different times," you said "over the years."

So far we have two confirmed times. 1 auto............ and 1 stick........... on a car that has been out for a week.

Don't you think that maybe............. just maybe......... you are jumping to conclusions to support your bias???

Case in point. Not one "magazine" has gotten a time anything close to low 13's for the Ram SRT-10. Yet, based on real drivers (many of which have gotten 14's at best), we would be stupid to think the truck is not capable of low 13's (or even high 12's in the case of factory freaks). This is on a vehicle that has been out for a YEAR.

Yet, you are trying to make concrete conclusions on a vehicle that has "officially" been out for 1 WEEK.

Am I the ONLY person who sees this??? I don't think so.

Yup, he said that he notice that revving it to the 6k redline (which is most people's/mags first instinct) actually gave him slower times than shifting at around 5400rpm. Apparently, shifting at that rpm landing him in the sweet spot of the powerband and produced his best run of the night.

That run was a very respectable 13.5s @102-103mph. Not bad out of the box and with a new car/owner.

If the car reacts so much differently compared to a Fox, and looking at the new Mustang's suspension, you should probably give one to an experienced 4th gen driver to wring out...

I am REALLY beginning to think that that 13.6 time that MotorTrend got was from a FACTORY FREAK. Much in the same way that there were high 12 second LS1 Camaros, I think that is the deal with what MotorTrend got. I'll give it time before I come to the definate conclusion, but I am on that side of the bubble right now.

"give one," LMAO............... you a funny man.

Hey, I'd love for someone to "give one" of many vehicles, so I could wring them out. Actually, the list would be so long, that I would end up boring many.

You mean like a ringer or two? Seems like all of the real owners so far are having trouble getting out of the 14's.
