I thought the 04 Silverado SS was supposed to get more HP??

on the black 395HP short cab concept the only difference seems to be 10.5:1 compression vs. 10.0:1 on the 345HP 6.0L V8

The Lightning is gearing up for the Dodge supertruck, which it should be able to beat in the next generation truck.

With both the SRT-10 & the next Lightning putting out 500 horsepower & Torque, seems the next Silverado SS will need a Z06 engine or even a supercharger as well to be in the running with this group (the 8.1 has 340hp/455 torque, the 6.0 has 345 & 380).

I think with the amount of trucks that GM sells, they might not care if it's the fastest.

Sorta like how Ford did with the SN95 for most of its life?

That's what I was thinking! I went to check out the 420hp version and then saw this! Just image the potential output with 10:1 compression, a little bigger cam, and aluminum heads. 550hp EASY!

I think the major holdback is the transmission availability. GM doesn't offer a quick shifting automatic or manual that can take this much torque and over 5000RPM. However, we know that GM is working on new 5 and 6 speed autos for performance RWD cars and trucks.

Add complete exhaust system with catalytic converters and alot less liberal flowing headers (underhood space), additional emissions control & OBD items, a functional transmission, and additional power sapping items such as air conditioning, and I think it would be a safe bet it's application in a vehicle would be considerably less than 525hp and 560tq.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't crate engines (especially marine engines) horsepower ratings much closer to the old gross power ratings than the current net ratings used in production vehicles?

I believe most of the carb-based crates are still closer to gross, ie the ZZ4, but the EFI ones all seem to be more realistic.
