2 possibilities. What do you think
We haven't had a poll in awhile, so how about this case:
Exibit A: Chevrolet now has a copyright on the Chevelle name.
Exibit B: There is every indication Chevrolet have a version of the FWD mid-lux chassis after 2005 (complete with a 4.8 V8).
Exibit C: There is every indication Camaro will return for it's 40th anniversary in 2007 (a top Chevrolet priority).
Bearing in mind GM's tendancy of late in reassigning new names to it's new cars, what do you feel will happen?
1. The Chevelle name will appear on Chevy's new RWD sedan?
2. The Chevelle name will appear on a renamed FWD Impala, while Impala moves up market to the RWD chassis.
3. The Chevelle name will replace Monte Carlo on the MC's FWD replacement.
4. The Chevelle name will show up on a Chevy planned after 2007.
5. You believe Chevy will make a RWD Chevelle, and a RWD Monte Carlo and a RWD Camaro

Just wanted to finally hear this. It sounds so good to hear.
BTW I would think that if monte goes RWD it will make their nascar more lifelike, so to speak so I am voting chevelle going FWD as much as we will hear people Bitch and Moan.
Also what is this about a 4.8L V8? I can only asume a DOHC N* based motor?
Option 5 is just a wet dream, so I know that won't happen...
I could see it replacing the Monte Carlo pretty easily...although I don't know why they wouldn't just call the Monte Carlo replacement, a Monte Carlo

I'm sure everyone here would love to see #5, but in the end, like Meccadeth, I don't think it'll really happen.
I also don't see it appearing as a FWD while Impala moves upmarket. IMO Impala is where it should be.
As for being the Monte Carlo replacement. I'd give that at least some chance, but even the Monte has a bit of a following. It's a stylish, comfortable, sporty looking touring machine. It's more about style and image, performance being secondary.
Maybe I'll get burnt at the stake for saying it, but my impression of what the base Chevelle used to be...at least the closest thing in today's lineup to the old Chevelle....would be the Malibu. But I wasn't even alive then maybe someone with some years under their belt could comment on that.
The point? Well I voted post 2007 Chevy. If the choice was available though, I'd have picked future CONCEPT CAR. That's my hunch at least. Possibly followed by a post 2007 model.

I honestly don't think they would screw up that badly by putting the Chevelle name on a front driver. "Old" GM maybe, "Lutz" GM no way.
Certainly they wont produce a RWD Camaro, Monte, andChevelle. IMO the Monte nameplate should be put to rest.
Just imagine the marketing that could be done with a lineup containing the names Corvette, Camaro, Chevelle, and Impala (FWD, I know).
Up until I read this thread I doubted the reintroduction of a Chevelle into Chevy's lineup. But now that they've copyrighted the name, I'm not sure were the Chevelle piece fits in the puzzle, that being said, I chose option 4.
How about for option #6.........
A name for Chevrolets version of the Toyota Matrix Wagon!
I really have no idea what they'll do w/ the name, but I agree that in todays Chevrolet, I doubt they would ***** the name out like in the past. I would imagine its going to go on something worthy. Or it could be for show car purposes. Who knows.
I just wish they would bring back Stingray for C6.

Things seem to change every day for GM. I think if we see only one RWD coupe it will be a Camaro....if we see two the car we keep refering to will be a Chevelle or MC.
FWIW GM doesn't even know what they will call the car yet....

a while back I seem to remember that chevy wanted a coupe version of the Alero, and when oldsmobile anounced that they were ending, this seemed like a good idea to pick up the slack of the Alero dissapearing (not that i am a fan of olds leaving) but chevelle would have been a good name fo rthe car, especially since it would have probablt been a coupe version of the Malibu.
well my point is, Chevelle fwd, MC RWD
and on another side note, with the future of MC up in the air, and the fact that people are saying that the MC doesn;t sell, (not that 47,000 units is all that terrible when cosidering how coupe sales have dropped considerably) but putting the MC on RWD may excite the sales (especially them NASCAR folks, I included)

It doesn't make sense [to me] for Chevy to produce new platforms that are FWD and yet call them things like Chevelle. To most people who would buy this as a FWD car - the name and heritage would mean nothing.
So I think if the Chevelle is comming, it will be rear wheel drive. I know the Impala name was given the FWD treatment but that decison was made during some very dark days in GM's corporate past. Now that high-ranking performance hating losers have gone back to selling sunglasses and whatnot and GM's remaining brass seems to have worken up to the need for a bit of muscle in the lineup... we might get some quality RWD action in the shape of some resurected nameplates. GTO is 'living' proof of this. Even Monte Carlo will go RWD I think as it will platform share withother RWD lines. But perhaps there will be either a RWD Chevelle or a RWD MonteCarlo and not both. Is there reason to have both? We all *know* Camaro will either not come back at all or it WILL be RWD.

when one car sells more then all of pontiac I really wouldn't call it Chevy's dark days. which proves that if a car steps up to the plate and is good quality, it will sell, even if it doesn't meet PERSONAL heritage, as aposed to TRUE heritage.
but I do agree, whichever name it is, one should be FWD and the other RWD. no point in have both FWD or RWD
