"Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?

Perhaps a little bit cheaper, but I doubt it would be drastically cheaper in V8 form.

Exactly. I'm in the school of thought of let the Monte Carlo be the V6 coupe and let the Camaro be several versions of only the V8: base/stripper (for the enthususiasts to modify), ss (uplevel trim all around, power everything for those that don't want to modify), and Z28 (to come out later like the Z06 is to Corvette, an all out beast that costs more).
My point is those that can't afford Corvettes but love Chevy are dying on the vine for something to get their hands on (hell, make the base model carburated with no computers so we can modify it! easy jk!
)Bottom line: Camaro has more history/tradition than GTO, if one has to go (great if they both can stay), let it be the goat.

Wow, what good thread!!
I feel the same, buy now while their is a GM performance car!
I'm shoping for an 04+ GTO, as soon as I get things settled with a job I'll get one, I feel it might go down like the 94-96 Impala SS, since GTO sales suck

GM should consider licensing the Camaro name to another automaker if they aren't going to use it. I'm sure there are plenty of other automakers out there that could see the value and would actually build one.

94-96 Impala SS's sold 69K cars in their three years. Which leads to my question, why are they worth so much? Its not like they were a limited production model.
Getting back on topic, if GM can give us something RWD V8 that is faster than the Mustang, looks awesome, and at a resonable price I will buy it. It would be nice if it was the Camaro, but beggers can't be choosers.

I don't know why "Camaro" stirs up so much emotion in me. I love cars, especially V8 RWD American muscle. But, I also have an appreciation for Ferrari, Porsche and Jaguar. I am by and large a Chevy-man, and will always start my search for a new vehicle at my local Chevrolet dealer. But although I think the Corvette is an awesome car, and the Z06 an awesome supercar, they don't stir the same emotion in me that Camaro does.
I am now at a point in my life where I can afford to have a few toys. I now know I'll always have at least one 1st gen Camaro in my collection. I also know (and have told my wife this) if and when the Camaro returns, I plan on owning the top-dawg model with a six-speed. To which her reply was, "well if its a stick, I won't be driving it." Bummer.
Yes, Camaro means that much to me. I can't explain it... it just does.
Re: "Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
it causes an uproar, even though it sold poorly, though we know it wasn't properly supported in it's last few years.
