"Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
"Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
Before I begin my rant.... this will probably **** a lot of you off.
OK, that said... is the name "Camaro" worth the trouble it's causing at GM?
First, we lose the Camaro itself... it causes an uproar, even though it sold poorly, though we know it wasn't properly supported in it's last few years.
That in itself was hard to get over, but now if the Zeta coupe(s) could be cancelled because the platform wouldn't make a suitable "Camaro", then that really pisses me off, because, while I want the best "Camaro" possible, it now sounds like things are going to be pushed back even further, and the one car that could be interesting (next gen GTO) is possibly dead.
This is getting ridiculous.
First the death of Camaro & Firebird leaves a big hole in GM's lineup, now it looks like "Camaro" is fighting to keep it that way.

Re: "Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
ehhh...you know what.. I DONT CARE!!!...GM THAT IS RIGHT I DONT CARE!!!..you throw away the Camaro..or even the platform and guess what..see you later!!
about the only thing that I would love to have is the GTO right now..and the Sky has peaked my interest for a totally diffrent reason...
kinda funny I posted something to this effect 6 months ago and another type a few months ago and got alot of bellywho about it not going to happen. and look at it IT IS a possibility...so I say GM do it..go ahead make all the FWD cars you want...lag behind in trends...guess the Camaro Mustang war is now with another company...another C car..Charger..YES it will be compared to the Mustang..dont say it wont be..
Ill be looking for a new car in a yr and if i dont see a new CAMARO somewhere in the works..ill go somewhere else..Mustang or Dodge..the only thing I would get is a 04 GTO it is a nice car and not supporting GM just supporting a good car GTO...
rant off have a good morning...

Re: "Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
That's not the impression I'm getting from what I've read here. There's a lot of what if's going on, but it doesn't seem that the name of the car is a really big issue right now. Chevy wants a Mustang competitor and it seems that people in GM are working to make sure it gets one before too long. I'm under the impression that even though Zeta may not survive as it was there's still the possiblity for a Camaro return.
Re: "Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
I agree it does still sound like "Camaro" will return, though it might be longer than first thought.
The problem is, though, that other cars that would have been fun to have, the next GTO for example, may not make the cut because of all this?
Very, very frustrating.
And the worst part of it is that when the current GTO ends, and if there is no new GTO, then GM has ZERO to offer AGAIN for RWD coupes other than Corvette.

Re: "Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
YEa Ford looks real good right now..and DCX looks really good..I think DC will put out a coupe just to throw it in GM's face...if they do it will be a hit...
If the charger sells half as good as the 300C...I think patrol car and taxi service will but it..this car will get a coupe version just as a challenger...hmmm..challenger???

In all reality, if I was buying a new car now, it'd either be a GTO or a Mustang. If the GTO wasn't there...well...Mustang it is.
Re: "Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
What you are experiencing is a rollercoaster of emotion. Get ready, because it isn't going to end in the next 6 months for sure...probably a year.
What everyone needs to remember is that the auto business is a customer-driven market. The GTO proves it in my opinion. If you are in the market for a vehicle, don't wait on anything . There is just too much uncertainty out there to be waiting for what is for all intensive purposes a pipedream.
We all need to take a step back and avoid reacting to every bit of info that bounces around here. Let the info come and go, and take it as a grain of salt. A large grain of salt, but a grain none the less.
And who knows how much dis-information is being posted on here every day.

Re: "Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
With out a Camaro I'll probably buy a used 3.6L CTS or LS2 GTO. Of course used means GM doesn't get any new money. I don't really like the new Mustang that much, but I think it would look awesome in Mach 1 trim and 18" rims. If I could get a Mach 1 with 350HP+ 5.4L for $27K or less I would consider going that route.

Anyway, I am really frustrated with the whole situation too, almost to the point where I don't care anymore. Maybe when something is formally announced or I see some spy shots, maybe then I will get a little excited but for now, I don't even act like the Camaro is comming back because it just seems too far off to even care.

Wow, is it just GM or things really this complicated in the auto-business? I've never seen so much drama surround one car...EVER. This is crazy.
Re: "Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
Well, it's a good thing the 4th-gen was ahead of its time power wise
(I'm comparing to the Mustang here...still only 300HP
) so that it'll bridge the gap --- wait, big gap.....call it a canyon --- between itself and the 5th-gen, if/when it ever arrives!
If you're in a position you can afford a 'Vette, that's really the only other worthy/feasible option at this point
. Well, I guess I'm speaking from a Canadian perspective, since the GTO was never release here
.
At this point, I've stopped caring whether the Camaro returns or not. It was nice when the "rumours" were that it would return in 2007.....that would mean we'd see/hear about it (somewhat *officially*) within the next year, but now that the rumours are leaing towards '08 or '09!?
Who will even give a $h!t by that time?
The Camaro will be a distant memory for most people.
I just wish that GM would pull their resources --- in essence, "pull a rabbit out of a hat" --- and surprise us all by introducing a Camaro into the 2007 model line-up
. That would be f#####g fantastic!!
...but, in the meantime, I'll pull my head out of the clouds
.

Re: "Camaro": More trouble than it is worth?
I'm wondering if we don't see a new Camaro until the refreshed for 2006 Monte Carlo dies out in 2009 or 2010. Hopefully we won't have to wait that long.
Prediction:
The new GTO will be out for the 2007 model year. Hopefully it will be so awesome that everybody will buy one of those because they don't want to wait for a Camaro that will come out two years later.

Seriously guys, the info that has been posted by Z284ever and GuionM (to an extent) does not necessarily even point to a delay in the Camaro launch. So Zeta coupes are undergoing massive scrutiny within GM, and the result could be the axing of GTO. Yeah it sucks for Poncho fellas, yeah I think GTO should be around for Pontiac (with the demand for horsepower, this simply is the right time for a well-executed GTO IMO).....but you have to look at the silver lining, and within that silver lining I say GM has actually grown a BRAIN when it comes to Camaro. If Camaro comes out saved from what may have been a watered-down version of Zeta as its platform, then maybe it's for the best. And yes it will be worth it to GM in the end because a properly done Camaro should be able to outsell whatever GTO they can come up with by a 4-1 margin!
So let's all just step back, and ask yourself a question: would you rather have both a GTO and a Camaro which are both very similar in size, weight, and even sheetmetal, or are you willing to sacrifice GTO for Camaro's greater good?
