From The Buzz at GM High-Tech Performance. They are reporting that Chevrolet has released the performance #s on the C6. 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.6 no speed given, and top speed of 186mph, plus all that performance on the same gas mileage ratings that the C5 got.

They are reporting that the 2005 GTO will get the 6.0 L LS2 engine (which I know has been posted here before) rated just under 400hp.

The next Z06 will be released in mid '05 as a '06. They are reporting a 427ci "LS7" but can not confirm the horsepower rating approaching 575hp.

imo they need to make that much, with the dodge viper and its 500+ci v10 and the new Ford GT with 550+ horses.

 

Yeah but those cars cost much more, especially the "GT".............you could almost get 3 ZO6's for the price of just one GT. Also, the ZO6 will be much lighter than the competition so it doesn't need to make as much hp to be as fast or faster.


186 mph for the base Vette is damn good so i wonder what the drag coefficient is and what the top speed of the ZO6 will be.

 

Thats very true, I just think their going to make more of a super car and the current vette like the old z06. If your gonna compete you might as well make a fool of the competition right?

 

I dont think GM's goal with teh Z06 is to beat the much higher, much more expensive GT, BUT if it happens, Im sure GM will gladly tote that moniker around. I would love to see a 60-65k Z06 beat a 150k GT. The Z06 will probably weigh just around 3k lbs, wich I belive is abotu 500lbs less then the GT, so it doesnt need all that power to keep up with the GT in a drag race. Hanlding is gunna be hard, but Im sure that they could keep up with the GT as did the Viper.
I think that if anything, the Z06 is going after the Viper, and it sounds as if they did it.
575 just seems insane. Thats a whoooooo lota power.
And GM doesnt build exciting cars

i thought they were having a hard enough time just making 500, hence the reason for the 427
and 575 is a LOT of horsepower to deal with, good times though in regards to the new musclecar era

Ls2 for the GTO, about time . I hope it is NOT detuned as to not step on the toes of the c6. That rule is BS. It is already 600-700lbs heavier. Drop the Ls2 in without any detuning or downrating.

575hp z06? i don't believe it. 175hp gap between base and z06? Now a 575hp "Blue devil" i could believe, but not a z06.

 

well I can see if they are wanting to move the Z06 up more in power because according to an inside source of mine the BOSS mustang that is replacing the Cobra name, expected release for the 2006 model is going to have the exact same engine as the put in the GT...NO CHANGES. Thats 500 horsepower! It sounds crazy but remember when ford came out with the Cobra R at some 80,000 dollars, then a couple years later makes the regular cobra faster for only 35000. The new BOSS is supposed to be more around the 40,000 dollar range though targeting the middle aged group of 30s and 40s. They are not afraid to make a faster car for cheaper like GM is with the SS and WS6 being underrated to stay below the corvette. Mustang is chasing the corvette horsepower wise anyway so chevy will need to awnser and 575 horsepower is a good answer if you ask me however what I have heard is the Z06 is only supposed to be right at the 500 mark as well. They better up it some if they dont want to get beat.

 

if the mustang gets this magical 500, the Vette with equal amount of hp will win every time. There is a good 500lb difference between the 2 cars.
I think Ford is stupid for going after the vette and viper, but everyone else seems to disagree.

about time? The vette doesnt even have the LS2 in it yet, and the GTO is late to deliver? I agree about the HP raiting, and I dont think GM is "afraid" of raiting the same hp of the Corvette with the GTO.

I thought the boss will just be another "throwback" like the Mustang has been doing. It will probably just get the DOHC 4.6 and save any massive numbers for whatever comes for the SVT model. And if its getting 500hp, its gunan hit high 40's easy. Look what it is now with 400, and a crappy quality car? Im sure after they are on lots for a long time, they will cut the price to just under 40 like they did with this cobra.

 

The SVT program is no longer going to exist so dont expect to see ANYTHING coming from it after 2005. The BOSS will replace the Cobra. No more cobra. end of story

 

ahhh, Im no ford freak, but SVT has just gone away for a short time. They are coming back in 06 or 07. Trust me, no one wants to see SVT go away faster then me.

Its called competition, the faster they make their cars, the faster GM is going to make their special cars to keep up.

 

so... that means I have to like them? If Ford cut all SVT spending and shut it down, I would be the happiest man alive. That day almost came when I heard that SVT was shutting down, but for a short time.
