Buick Enclave
Re: Buick Enclave
The Enclave will be getting the the new 4.7l "ultra V8" - which is being developed to eventually retire the Northstar V8. One might note that the *current* 270hp 3.6l is *also* slated to get direct injection -- and it's hp numbers come in at just over 300hp. Last time I looked, 300hp > 280hp. GM will be putting 6 fwd gears in it's Enclave to Toyota's 5speed (what comes around goes around). Haha. Whadya expect on a GM forum? Don't like it? Find Toyotaslappies.com or some other forum. Like I could give a *@($ what Toyota is going to produce 2 years from now. I guess If I wanted to find out about Toyota's future plans, I'd have redirected my browser to some other sight. Sigh. Sorry about the hostilities. Perhaps Threxx's never-ending Toyota-comments on a Z28 forum has worn my down as well. Hey, don't get me wrong: GM has ignored the competition for far too long--but that certainly isn't the case today. The Enclave is proof of that. The Enclave looks to be truly competitive across the board: exterior styling, interior refinement, and powertrain technology. Can't we just enjoy that on a GM forum?

I *like* this Buick. After driving it I might like it better than the Lexus! I don't care for the current RX all that much, really, so it would be pretty feasable for me to prefer this Buick. 1-2 years from now will be a different ball game so I guess we'll have to see then since obviously even the slightest speculation on my part is strictly forbidden.
My comments on the future of the RX are only because this SUV seems to be targeting the RX, and this SUV will be coming out about the same time as the Enclave will from what it seems.
Re: Buick Enclave
As a follow up I tried to find the full and negative review I wrote on the RX330 loaner that I posted here about a year and a half or two years ago but I guess it has already gone into archive.
But I did find this that I wrote about the second RX loaner I had (my GS4 was at the dealership several times because of some screwed up aftermarket suspension mods I had)
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=353736
And this:
http://www.clublexus.com/forums/arch.../t-117406.html
If you notice, I'm certainly not always pro-Toyota. I am a realist though and that tends to offend people.

That looks very nice and would mark the first Buick that seems nice enough to truely compete with Lexus - unlike the other crap they've been putting out 'with lexus in mind'.

I never put any words in your mouth. Go re-read MY post. I made a statement. GM's got a world-class powertrain combo coming in the Enclave. and yes, as a GM fan I'm gloating. How shocking it must be to come to a GM enthusaist site and read a GM fan trumpeting GM's accomplishments! And by the previous posts, I don't believe I'm the only one that's been tiring of the constant Toyota/Lexus comparisons & thinly-veiled praises. Now don't get me wrong: GM *should* be mimicing, copying, and attempting to best Toyota, Lexus, and every other competitor in every arena they can. I'm just saying that when I come to a GM enthusiast site, I enjoy reading about GM vehicles, and not Toyota's. That's just me. That's just my opinion. To each their own I guess. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Didn't mean to be hostile. After re-reading my post, it certainly does have nasty tone. I apologize - I don't mean to harass anybody. We've all got opinions - and we'll always find more than enough stuff to agree and disagree on. Please accept my apologies Threxx.

Re: Buick Enclave
[QUOTE=cmutt]
I said that this is the first Buick truely competetive with Lexus from the look of it IMO. And that is my honest opinion. The LaCrosse is not, even by most GM fan's opinions, competetive with the ES330 which GM was citing as its 'target market' for the LaCrosse. The Lucerne... well, somethings about it are great, somethings are definitely not great, but main point being it doesn't really seem to intend to compete with anything from Lexus that I can figure out. The price when well equipped is between a loaded up ES330 and basic config GS300/350 but it doesn't really seem targeted at either car.
There are things I don't care to read about too but I tend to just skip over them.
I'm personally fascinated by ALL brands of cars and have an appreciation in some form or another for most any and every brand of car out there.
I accept the apology and apologize for snapping back at you in a similarly hostile manner.
But I think you hit the nail on the head - agree to disagree. If you disagree with something I've said about the Enclave or RX, by all means, go ahead and disagree. I'd honestly like you to because that gives us something to talk about, and believe it or not, I am here to talk about cars, not just 'preach' like some people think my 'hidden agenda' is.
But flaming me for talking about the Enclave's obvious future competition in a completely objective manner (the known facts for the RX's future) seems to be doing the exact opposite of that - it is refusing to 'agree to disagree' and taking it to the point of personal hostilities... and as you mentioned, several people in this thread seem to have joined that Threxx-bashing bandwagon today.
While not directly saying one is better than the other, you are clearly infering that all GM products are inferior with this comment.

Re: Buick Enclave
Sorry to get off topic, but I like it's looks, although I think they should have stuck with the more radical look of the Centime concept of a few years ago. My guess is that GM didn't want to go too far for it's aging Buick clientele.
As for Threxx, why don't you all just give him a break. He stated he likes the Enclave, and is comparing it to what he knows best...Toyota/Lexus, which is also probably GM's target audience. If everyone else can opine, then he should be able to also. BUT...he does use the CJ reference too much!

Re: Buick Enclave
Wow is all I got to say about the Enclave. This is not normally a vehicle I would look at but is amazing how much a wife and 2 kids, with more on the way, can do to change your mindset on what market to shop when looking for a new vehicle.
Re: Buick Enclave
Yes that is stunning. It actually makes buick look like a luxury brand. Finally.
I am terribly impressed. I was just thinking afew months ago how GM, with all their SUV's, dont have one thing that compares to MDX, murano ect.
But thats all changing now.
I will say that it does look a lot like the conept pictures we saw of what the next gen saturn vue would look like.

As for pricing, I am sure it will cost less than the Lexus, even similarly equipped. That's simply because Buick is not Lexus
.
Umm... I didn't try to make it seem like the Lexus was better than the Buick. I actually said this Buick seems like it will compete well with the RX!

Lexus is better than Buick, there is no comparison there. They have cars that I am a lot more excited about than Buick. I hope that Enclave is a sign of things to come, that way Buick could start competing with Lexus - that is, if they ever do that, since I heard many promises by various GM divisions with high standards being set, only to be forgotten and ignored in later years. Pontiac - BMW comes to mind.

Besides the IS, not sure what would be...although this is a luxury comparison which they tend to emphasize more than enthusiasm for the actual car.

It excites me when I see a car that can be comfortable on a road trip, yet exciting to drive, but still fuel efficient, and reliable.
For example, GM's magnaride suspension is something I see a lot of potential in... the ability to instantly make a suspension system react to the road and to driver preferences to provide comfort yet sport at the same time.
Take the Lexus IS350. Pretty good fuel economy, can run high 13s at over 100mph in the 1/4, has a very smooth ride yet very precise and confident control, a bunch of gizmos, and will probably be great in terms of reliability.
This sort of car is not 'the best' at anything it does but is a very interesting compromise between them all.
