Bombard Ford SVT with faxes !!!!! re: Lightning
Re: Bombard Ford SVT with faxes !!!!! re: Lightning
Finnally got a reply from Tom. A length one too. They will be compiling and sharing letters with management. Hopefully, those passionless beancounters will see pos-poning the L for a coupke of years as a BIG mistake, let alone killing it.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write to express your feelings
regarding Ford's decision to postpone the launch of the next-generation SVT
F-150 Lightning.
By any measure, the SVT F-150 Lightning has been a very successful product for
Ford. With a total of 39,687 SVT F-150 Lightnings produced since 1993, the
Lightning is the longest-running, best-selling sport truck nameplate in the
industry. With a unique blend of performance, style, functionality, and value,
Lightning is truly an icon product.
Over the years, the SVT F-150 Lightning has earned Ford a tremendously loyal
customer base. Most Lightning owners own other Ford Motor Company products as
well. Lightning owners are often responsible for encouraging friends,
neighbors, and co-workers to consider Ford products. This is why we at SVT
believe that Lightning customers are some of Ford's most valuable customers.
Ford and SVT are fortunate to have such a loyal and enthusiastic customer base.
Ever since the news of the postponement of the next-generation Lightning became
a matter of public record, we have received numerous letters, faxes, phone
calls, and emails from Lightning owners. The overwhelming response to this
announcement is a strong indication of the passion that our customers have for
this very special product. We are presently in the process of compiling and
cataloguing this important and highly valued input from our customers, so that
we may share it with Company management.
Any further announcements regarding the SVT F-150 Lightning and/or other SVT
programs will be communicated through our dealers and via our website,
www.svt.ford.com. Alternatively, customers may contact us directly via the SVT
InfoCenter, at 1-800-367-3788 (1-800-FORD-SVT).
Thank you once again for your feedback.
Sincerely,

Re: Bombard Ford SVT with faxes !!!!! re: Lightning
Spoke to SVT today.
Lightning is postponed....NOT cancelled.
Cobra is on track for '07, and it will be called SVT Cobra Mustang...so it's not losing the Cobra name.
SVT is not in jeopardy of being disbanded.

Re: Bombard Ford SVT with faxes !!!!! re: Lightning
"If the Lightning returns, it will be 2008 at the earliest."
This was in the Autoweek article.
Saying postponed is a nice "feel good" thing to say. You don't **** off as many people. Also, is it MY2008, which is 3 years from now......... or actual 2008, which is 4. "Postponed till 2008 at the earliest" can be 2008 or 2080.
In that vein, Camaro production wasn't ended............. just postponed.
Thus, my original premise still stands. If SVT is so lame that they cannot develop 2 vehicles.......... one of which is almost completely developed (you know, the one that is "postponed"), then they are in sad shape indeed. If "postponing" the Lightning doesn't allow the SVT Mustang to come out any earlier than originally scheduled, then what are we gaining............. short of one less performance vehicle.
I think alot of "us" like to believe feel good words like "postponed." This way, we can just sit back, do nothing, and see what happens. Then, in 4-5 years when the "postponed" vehicle doesn't return, there won't be enough people who even remember about it to care.

Gloria, i know what you're saying, but this isn't anything new for the L. 1st gen production ended in 95, and 2nd gen production didn't pick up till 99. Still, that's no excuse or reason to shelve a nearly-ready production vehicle like the next gen L.
Re: Bombard Ford SVT with faxes !!!!! re: Lightning
That is my exact problem with this scenerio. When the first Gen Lightning went out of production, there was no talk of a second Gen, nor was there any work being done on one at that time.
This is not even close to the situation now. SVT has a truck that is nearly production ready............ Ford and SVT have been bragging up the truck for quite a while.............. and now it is shelved.
The only way this would equal the situation between the first gen and the second gen would be if Ford had been working on the 1999 Lightning, and told us it would be out then............ and then when it was almost ready, said that they were "postponing" it for another 4 years.
