I disagree. The new Impy is very quick (one of the quickest mid-sized cars Chevy's ever made), looks OK, and has one of the most awesome interiors from GM.

No way on earth I'd choose one over a Charger R/T, but to be honest, it's really not a bad car.

I owned a '91 Camaro and currently own a '96. The hood line is lower on a 4th gen when compared to the 3rd.

I agree and can live with it as well.... PROVIDED IT'S NOT SOME HALF-HEARTED THROWN TOGETHER STRUT ARRANGEMENT. A nice German double pivot design comes to mind but I know that is probably asking too much.

Me too , GM must have a hat trick . Because no matter how you shuffle the possibilities now , I dont see how it could possibly weigh in under 3600 .

The 4th gen Z28 weighed barely under 3500 pounds. Convertibles 100 pounds more.

Considering a new Camaro would have side airbags and related equptment, a structure that's going to be able of handling at least 500 horsepower, and engineered to meet all future crash standards for at least the next half dozen years, there's no reason to complain about it weighing 3600 pounds or even slightly more.

ESPECIALLY if it's going to have IRS and a top engine more powerful than the current LS2.

If it weighs below 3700 and costs no more than the 4th gen model for model, we all should line up and buy each engineer involved a beer!

Re: Bel Air, Camaro Concept NAIAS

If weight is such a big deal... and i know it is ... why not option down the Camaro in the same way as the Solstice? i.e. less power windows, electric seats, etc... ?

Personally, I would want my Camaro with a sophisticated IRS in preference to a solid live axle with all the fruit... That way I could option up with all the extras (that weigh every modern car down) if I so wanted.

Ya know, if you drop the power seats, power windows, and air conditioning, that alone is probally 125-175 pounds.

Depends on what your definetion of barely is. I have seen anywhere from 3350-3400lbs for a fourth gen z28. I would consider a fifth gen weighing in at 3500lbs to be significant, as it very well could weigh well over 100lbs of a fourth gen, depending on the options on the cars.

I'd take mine in black. I know were the minority, but I think a couple of pounds is definitely worth rolling up one's own windows.

A stripped model would also help GM reach certain price points and performance benchmarks.

Re: Bel Air, Camaro Concept NAIAS

uhm.........how many 'stripped' models do you think we'd sell.

(and before you answer that, let me also throw in that if you're wrong, we have the right to force you to buy every 'stripped' model in order to make up for the huge costs it would take to engineer extra parts/etc....)

One comment about the "Bel Air" that one or two people are referring to on this thread. Do not assume that by "Bel Air" it would have anything to do with the Bel Air concept shown at autoshows the past few years. If the name came back.....and I personally don't see it happening...at least at this juncture........it would be on a vehicle that looked little, if anything, like that particular concept.
