"Belair" is a working name like Charlie said. Whether the name sticks or if Chevy calls it something else we probally won't know till it's introduction or unveiling.

It's not delayed. Bob Lutz has a new stated policy best described as "Shock & Awe". He's not going to be doing anymore consumer clinics unless GM want's to try a way-out design (think the old Pontiac Trans Van concept that became GM's minivan line 15 years ago).

Bob Lutz is also going to be basing alot on reactions of selected people being brought into GM's design studios. Much like that gaggle of press people that were brought int GM Design earlier this year.

Expect the Belair to be shown to the public much like the Saturn Sky and Aura were. Unexpected, out of left field, and just a year or so before production.

Has nothing to do with it whatsoever.

Read the caption below the VE pictures for a good clue.

I like Bel Air the most of all the posible names. Impala does fine as it is, Caprice makes me think of an ugly cop car, and Chevelle should stay a 2 door.

I kind of like Bel Air also. Impala is fine with me too. Whatever it's called...I'd like a modern Chevy RWD sedan with V8 and available manual trans, to park next to my 5th gen Z/28.

I guess I can compromise and accept a properly done front strut arrangement if it means that freakin' solid axle is gone in favor of a modern 5 link.

Also, I guess it can safely be assumed that by going back to a strut arrangment, the front end of the car will be taller and not as sleek as the 4th gen.

Have you seen a 3rd gen lately? Last time I checked they were shorter then a 4th gen? Don't think they will have to be taller...

How is it "spin" when Red says that the 5th gen Concept will look nothing like nor had anything to do with the SS concept?!?

I like Impala the most. Because it will save it from the current abomination that it is right now. Bel Air would do just fine now

I've been pushing for an SLA front on a 5th gen for a very long time, with everyone and anyone that I could get/cajole to listen to this Camaro geek from Chicago, (you'd be amazed at the people who actually took the time to listen and discuss!)...and have had some very interesting conversations about the various pros and cons regarding this topic.

Let me put it like this....I think alot of you know how strongly I feel about this subject....but this is a solution that I think I can live with. Actually, I think chassis dynamics will be a high point of this car.

I just hope my re-assurances about size and weight turn out to be true.

No Bel Air at NAIAS or New York. Forget Bel Air ......at least for now.

SS concept is still being shown at various auto shows..(next stop is Seattle) ...but I don't think you'll see much of it in anything (meaning new product) in the next couple of years.

If you really look at the SS concept and the Sixteen, they're almost cariactures of automobiles.....they're carried to the extreme. While they're great looking cars, I can already hear Consumers Reports (and some on various 'unnamed' enthusiast sites ) wailing that there's no head room....hard to get in and out of the back seat......too heavy.....too large........yadayadayada.........

Sooooooooo....pay off the bets now, gentlemen.
that's why GM should grow a pair and produse that thing-it's too bada@@ to only have one of them.

Quite honestly, I hated the SS concept.....too Frankenstein and HUGE for my tastes....
