Assuming there will never be a 5th gen
- CE T/A's
- 30th ANN T/A's
- 35th Ann SS's
- SS's - in general
These are the "special" cars that I can think of offhand that were produced by GM, not an outside specialty source like Berger or others.
As far as stock vs/ modified - I'd agree that stock would typicaly fetch for value.
However, small mods might not hurt - EGR!, TPS!, FRA, etc.
I had a 10th Ann T/A that I bought secondhand & kept it all stock (less the alarm installed by a prior owner)- even down to the 8 track - but was unable to hold onto it long enough to see a value increase, plus I drove it & racked up miles.
Since I am not Reggie Jackson, anything I buy has to be w/ the intent that it willl be for current consumption, not future value.

If anyone is looking for a real 67 Z/28 project car, I know where you can find two of them.

And yes... mine is a rally sport, RPO Z22.

I really doubt it. Maybe the 35th SS's or CE T/A's, but the regular SS's and z28's don't have much of a chance i think. The rarest always fetches the highest premuim. 4th gen z28's and SS's are not rare. There's got to be something special/rare about that specific car to begin with. Plus, most 4th gens rack up mileage easily, and that'll also hurt the overall value in the long run since low-mileaged examples are desireable.
Unless you own a really special 4th gen, i wouldn't bet on it. That and we know a 5th gen is on the way

Lets be real...10-15 years these car ain't gonna be worth anything. Unless it is a ZL1 or the sort.
30-40 years from now- any that are left in good shape will be worth ALOT.
BTW-jg95z28 is gonna be hard to argue with on 1st genner's.

Since I don't plan on keeping my 2002 Z/28 for too much longer, there is absolutely NO point in going and dumping thousands of dollars worth of aftermarket modifications into it if I'm going to turn right around and get rid of it shortly thereafter. I'd absolutely love a cam, some headers, gears, a cowl hood, and some nice 17" rims, but not at the expense of getting hardly anything in return for all that $$$ spent. Not to mention, it would be a major pain to try and replace all that stuff with the factory originals. At least right now all I have to worry about is putting back on the stock airbox and cat-back(which wouldn't be very difficult). But IF there never was to be a 5th generation Camaro or Firebird, I'd have to say it would be at least a good 25 years or so before our 4th gens might actually be worth something(and those would be the great conditioned, low mileaged, non-molested ones). Otherwise, I doubt these cars will ever be worth much that far down the line. It all just depends upon if there are any "enthusiast" who are willing to pay some descent $$$ for a particular 4th gen they might want IMO.
So if you plan on keeping you're F-body for quite a while, do whatever you'd like to it(because you love your car). However, if ya don't plan on keeping the car much longer like me, don't waste you're $$$ on it as that would just be stupid financially(that money could be better spent elsewhere or even saved)...
Good thread,
Mike

The above is the primary reason why my Z will remain, for the most part, unmodified. Not that I plan to sell it...but I personally believe an unmolested car, years down the road, will be a sight to see in itself.
I have had a certain motto since I bought the car...anything that cannot be removed in less than an hour will not go on the car. The SLP STB and SFCs I did solely for chassis rigidity, helping the car for years to come. I don't consider these "mods." The CAI and the exhaust? Purely for fun
I think to get almost 15 rwhp for $199 is worth it, and the stock intake can be re-installed in no time. Same for the exhaust...although, it is an "original" Camaro piece, as it is the '97 optional SS exhaust
As for the stereo, in a way now I wish I hadn't done it, BUT, I can pull it all out entirely in less than 2 hours, and the only holes cut into the entire car was one in the firewall I can plug, and 2 tiny ones in the strut tower for the fuse holder. Not bad for a $3,000 system, eh??
My personal belief is keep it stock...and if not, then keep the parts, and keep it simple. Especially if you want someone like me to give you good $$ for it down the road. I want a third gen as soon as my Grand Am is paid off (or 5th gen? Not so sure...), and I know I will NOT even CONSIDER a modified car, at all...
